My Splinterlands Blog #166 – Ranked Rework News & 1st Conflict Ends

in voilk •  4 months ago

Welcome to another article where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! This past week was the bi-weekly update, so there are a few items to touch upon there. The second Conflict card was added, which I shared the stats for last week following the Town Hall.

The shop pages were all moved over to the new client, leaving three main sections of the site still left on the old one. At least there's finally some forward movement on this again, after it seemingly being put on the back burner for a while. A new rules set, Blood and Sunder, was added that gives everyone the Corrosive Ward ability.

The icon for the new rules set.

The potions for Gladiator packs can once again be purchased using Merits earning from Brawls, as well as Dark Energy Crystals (DEC). There were a ton of changes all told, though some of them were just quality of life improvements, or small tweaks to things. I'm not going to go into all of them here, but you can always check out the release notes for the full list.

With the end of the first Conflicts, I ended up with 7 chances to get a Rage, the new legendary Dragon card. It took 200 chances to get a guaranteed card, so unsurprisingly I did not end up with a copy. I did get very lucky and found my first pair of totem fragments on land - both in the same day.

An official post about the upcoming ranked changes was also posted. The high points are: removal of summoner level caps, removal of the ability to stay in a league, the removal of leaderboard prizes outside of Champion, the removal of the under-leveled card penalty, going to a +20 on a win & -20 on a loss rating system, and increased costs for purchasing additional energy (battles). This is going to go live on a Thursday update on the 29th, following the end of the season.

    Brawls:

Guild Brawl #198 playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. The guild came in 2nd place this time around! Nice to see we're sticking in the top 3 of late.

Vs. ERUNE of SL - SPANISH ACADEMY

Vs. HOLDECK2 of KILLERS OF THE DEPRAVED

    Vs. TARDIGRADE123 of GANK'S SQUADRON

    Vs. BOZZ of DARK ASSASSINS

    Vs. VHIN024 of PEAKMONSTERS - AREA 51

Guild Brawl #199 playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. The guild came in 3rd place this time, which seems to be our average of late. I feel like I helped, as I (spoiler) had an undefeated run this week. Granted, the two people not submitting decks certainly helped.

Vs. VISAHOPPER of BAGHOLDERS ANON GUILD - opponent fled

    Vs. GOLDCOMMONLOVER of DIAMOND HANDS

    Vs. RACHELREDHAIR of SPECIAL OPS

Vs. BBGKEVIN of LEGENDARY DRAGON BABIES - opponent fled

Vs. SENDTOEPICS of TEAM POSSIBLE SHIELD

    I opened 3 Gladiator packs:

Not the best packs. The one epic that I almost never use in the first one, and an extra rare. But, Katrelba and Isgald get far more play.

    The Rest:

I actually sold the epic totem fragment I found on my plot, for enough DEC to be able to start running another one of my plots. I haven't set it up yet, since there's also the temptation to pick up cards to play with, considering the big ranked changes coming up soon. Hopefully I'll be able to make a decision before the season ends!

Speaking of the end-of-season, it should be interesting, with the release of the new ranked system and the next Town Hall all falling on the same day. I probably won't get an article out until the weekend after, but there should be plenty to write about! I think it may be a bloodbath for a lot of people the first few days, but hopefully people will reach the right rating for their cards before too long.

That's about it for this mid-season update. Thank you for reading! And, if you have any question or comments let me know below.
