You must have seen some dogs with their tails ‘cut off’ and you be wondering if their owners have an ulterior motive.

Well, tail docking is the process of surgically cutting of the last parts of the caudal vertebrae in dogs(I.e the tail) it involves cutting off bones, sealing off blood supply and drainage to the said part. This is mostly done at a very young age except for some rear occasions.

The common reasons this is done includes but may not be limited to:

    • cosmetic purpose ( specific breeds)
    • prevention of tail injuries, especially with dogs with really long tails.
    • solution to chronic tail injuries.

Well, I’ll stop there for now…. Kindly stay tuned for more interesting topics.
