Dreams on Wheels

What was your first car like? Well, technically, I didn't have my first car because soon after I passed the driving license exam, I actually got to drive my dad's old Passat... Hence, my first car was actually my dad's old Passat.

My first official car, though, was a 2001 Opel Corsa, which kind of came too late because its main use was driving to work and around town. The days of actually enjoying "the benefits of driving a car" were gone now.

What can I say? I grew up poor and didn't have the car or cars that I dreamed of when I was a teenager. Maybe I'll manage to fulfill such a dream as I get close to 40 and the bull market peaks. Who knows, we'll see...

There are so many options these days, ICE, hybrids, EVs... One can hardly choose the right ride, but back in the day, like a hundred years ago, people were driving ICE vehicles with wooden wheels, and I bet these were a luxury.

Like this Richard Brasier from 1904 that I photographed last weekend. I can only imagine how fast this thing was going, and I can only hope it can start. I doubt it, though...

The engine looked to be in its original form and condition, but since the whole thing was not a car collection, I highly doubt this Brasier is fully functioning.

Fast forward to 2024, and we already have self-driving Teslas, and in August, Elon Musk will launch the Robo Taxi, a fully self-driving Tesla that will be a game-changer in the ride-sharing industry.

A few months ago, I mentioned tokenized vehicles, a concept that makes it possible for one vehicle to be owned by multiple owners and these owners making a buck on their share of the car. It will take years until such an idea becomes reality, but Musk is showing the way.

Tesla sure has some really renowned brands throwing out heavy towels at it in terms of competition, but thus far, it is the American brand founded by Musk that is behind the wheel of breaking boundaries in the EV industry.

I am driving a 2004 old diesel Audi, and thus far, I have no intention or the funds to change it, so I'm not that excited about what the EV industry has to offer. I loved having the opportunity to get so close and touch an old car like the one in the following pics.

The piano is a bonus 😆. Have a great day and see you all next time.
