After that miraculous win we got in the first leg of our Champions League against PSG, we are back to Premier League football this weekend. Today's game is a game between Liverpool in top position with 67 points vs Southampton who are in last position with just 9 points.
From all indication, this is the sort of game you would expect Liverpool to win without stressing themselves. We surely have to win this even if we rest some of our major players.
Well, our coach didn't really do a lot of that. He present a solid starting XI for this.
First Half.
The first half of their game was an unbelievable performance from Liverpool. We sure controlled the game for more than 90% of the first half. We were quite dominant with the ball and we did so well to recover the ball whenever we lost it.
While Liverpool were getting it all right, we were also very poor where it really matters... the goalscoring side of the game. We created a lot of chances, but our execution was very poor. It was almost unbelievable.
Southampton started getting into the game and just before halftime, they got a goal due to a horrible miscommunication between VVD and Alisson. That right there was a disturbing turn of event. Even as we are a goal down, I can't stop imagining how things will turn out if we do this against PSG in the game that will be played next mid-week.
Nunez who hasn't really impressed in this half of the game committed an awful tackle which almost sparked a fight before the end of the first half. He was lucky to only receive a yellow card for that tackle.
The first half ended with Liverpool being a goal down.
Second Half.
This half of the game immediately started with triple substitutions. Szobo, Tsimikas, and Jones got replaced .
Liverpool quickly got their equalizing goal at the 51st minute of the game, just 6 minutes into the second half. The goal came from the attacking and dribbling brilliance of Diaz who created the chance and passed to Nunez for a fine finish.
Liverpool got another goal just 3 minutes after the equalizing goal. This time around, Nunez won a penalty kick for Liverpool and Salah who's our permanent penalty taker stepped up to take the penalty. He scored as you would expect to give us the lead.
Liverpool regained control of the game and started dictating the pace. We did additional substitutions to introduce Endo and Quansah into the game.
It was until the 88th minute that Liverpool won another penalty through a handball made inside the box by a Southampton player. Salah stepped up again and scored to give Liverpool 2 goals advantage. The game ended as a 3 - 1 win in favor of Liverpool.
Now, we can look forward to our mid-week game again PSG.
