    Hello, dear readers!

My Spanish work-and-travel journey is coming to an end. 🙂 It is a pity that we were not lucky with the weather. Of course, this is not a holiday, and most of the time here I work on my laptop. But I would like to go out more. Unfortunately, this year there has been an abnormal amount of rain. Sometimes it rains for several days without stopping. Even today was supposed to be a day without rain, but it's still raining.

All the more reason to appreciate the beautiful sunny day we had last Saturday. A perfect, unforgettable day. My friend and I rented a car and went to see the ancient picturesque town of Peniscola, known in particular for its castle, where some scenes from the TV series Game of Thrones were filmed. It is just 1 hour driving from our place.

I usually only have selfies. This time, I owe my friend a whole bunch of photos of me against the backdrop of old walls, doors, stairs, and of course the sea. Although they are not very good, in my opinion, they are still memories.

Peniscola is called The City in The Sea as it is joined to the mainland by only a narrow strip of land. It is very popular among tourists, especially during high season. Its foundation is associated with the Iberians, and the castle was built by the Templars in 1307.

Wandering along cobbled streets will take you back in time. The narrow streets of ancient cities provide shade and protection from the heat of the sun. The white and blue colour of the houses is reminiscent of Santorini, and the unusual tiling of the balconies (below) is reminiscent of the Portuguese Azulejos.

The castle is known as the summer residence of the Pope Luna (Pope Benedict XIII). You can also see Masonic coats of arms here.

We also unwittingly witnessed something ceremonial and important ... or just humorous.

Now we have reached the very top. Embracing breathtaking views from this stripped flat roof...

The ticket includes visiting the ARTILLERY PARK. It is worth a visit!

More pictures are on my camera's memory card. I will share them once I return home.

Before leaving, we took a leisurely stroll along the picturesque promenade along the sea.

On the way home, we passed by almond orchards in bloom. We stopped to see this beauty up close.

This is our rental Citroen C4 Hybrid. Excellent car!

The last destination for that day was a viewpoint on the top of the mountain.

The car made it over the serpentine perfectly, and here we are at the top near the church. It's closed, but the view is incredible. People come here to watch the sunset.

13,000 steps - done! That was a beautiful day with lots of walking and fascinating memories.
