I don't watch much anime, I don't watch much TV in general and I try to stay as far away from streaming services as I can, I have no self control and every time a series hooks me I can spend the whole time lying around just watching it and then seeing theories and opinions about that series, something that happened to me on my most recent sit down to watch Cyberpunk Edgerunners.
I came into this series knowing that this was something like an adaptation of the Cyberpunk 2077 video game world but with a new story, new characters and a whole new approach to the city of Night City, always full of lights and technology but with a clear dark side that traps most people, and especially our protagonist.

The Edgerunners are something like mercenaries who are trying to survive in this city based on shooting and fulfilling missions directed from the highest commands of the city, is a job and way of life in which people last little and those who think they are special end up not being too much, that's where David Martinez wants to make a name and be someone recognized in the midst of so much decadence.
David integrates a band of these Edgerunners and throws us into a fish out of water plot where we learn how the Night City underworld works, who is in charge of the missions and who really rules the city, our protagonist also has dreams and seems to be special after enduring some of the heaviest cybernetic implants, those that give them an obvious advantage in combat but eventually destroy you psychologically.
And there's another point that the anime explores very well, addiction to these implants sooner or later leads to madness, and we have a front row seat to see David's entire journey from his first implant to becoming unrecognisable to everyone because of them, there's a lot of shit referencing panic attacks or PTSD so it's clear that you can't be immune to these implants indefinitely.
The whole cast of characters has this in mind, and while I'm on the subject of the other characters I think I'm very impressed to see that I'm interested in a bunch of psychopathic criminals, but really the charisma they have with each other and with David from the first scene is very well done, they all have abilities of their own and share a lifestyle that our protagonist also wants, plus between them is David's romantic interest and with whom he will form one of the most bittersweet couples I've ever seen.
From the animation I can only say one thing: IMPRESSIVE, from beginning to end, each chapter has a stamp printed on it and some action scenes that forgive any dead point in the plot, besides that we have changes in the drawing often I think none of the action scenes suffer from being poor or poorly done, I think the artistic style is one of the highest points of the whole anime and just seeing some of these screenshots that are in the post I hope you get an idea of how good it looks.
It's an anime that goes quickly and leaves a tremendous impact, especially because everything seems to point to the fact that there will never be a second season, it's something bittersweet but a nice experience when you know how to appreciate it, very few series have the mettle to understand what are the stories of a season, they live wanting to extend their characters without giving them an end, but I think that Edgerunners takes an elegant step by ending all the plots in its few episodes.

No suelo mirar mucho anime, no suelo mirar mucha TV en general e intento mantenerme lo mas lejos que puedo de los servicios de streaming, no tengo autocontrol y cada vez que una serie me engancha puedo pasarme todo el dis tirado solo viendola y luego viendo teorias y opiniones sobre esa serie, algo que me paso en mi mas reciente sentada para ver Cyberpunk Edgerunners.
Llegaba hasta esta serie sabiendo que esta era algo asi como una adaptacion del mundo del videojuego Cyberpunk 2077 pero con una nueva historia, nuevos personajes y todo un enfoque novedoso en la ciudad de Night City, siempre repleta de luces y tecnologia pero con un claro lado oscuro que atrapa a la mayoria de las personas, y en especial a nuestro protagonista.

Los Edgerunners son algo asi como mercenarios que estan tratando de sobrevivir en esta ciudad a basa de disparos y cumpliendo misiones dirigidas desde los mas altos mandos de la ciudad, es un trabajo y modo de vida en el que las personas duran poco y los que se creen especiales terminan no siendolo demasiado, es ahi en donde David Martinez quiere hacerse un nombre y ser alguien reconocido en el medio de tanta decadencia.
Para esto David integra una banda de estos Edgerunners y nos lanza en una trama de pez fuera del agua en donde vamos aprendiendo como funciona el bajo mundo de Night City, quienes estan al mando de las misiones y quien de verdad es el que domina la ciudad, nuestro protagonista tambien tiene sueños y parece ser especial despues de soportar algunos de los implantes ciberneticos mas pesados, esos que les dan una ventaja obvia en el combate pero que con el tiempo te van destrozando psicologicamente.
Y ahi hay otro punto que el anime explora muy bien, la adiccion a estos implantes tarde o temprano te lleva a la locura, y tenemos un puesto en primera fila para ver todo el recorrido de David, desde su primer implante hasta convertirse en alguien irreconocible para todos debido a estos, hay mucha mierda referenciando a los ataques de panico o a la PTSD por lo que esta claro que no puedes ser inmune a estos implantes por tiempo indefinido.
Todo el elenco de personajes tiene esto presente, y ya que estoy hablando de los demas personajes creo que me impresiona mucho ver que me interese en un monton de delincuentes psicopatas, pero es que de verdad el carisma que tienen entre ellos y con David desde la primera escena esta muy bien hecho, todos tienen habilidades muy propias y comparten un estilo de vida que nuestro protagonista tambien quiere, ademas tambien de que entre ellos esta el interes romantico de David y con la que formara una de las parejas mas agridulces que he visto.
De la animacion solo me queda decir una cosa: IMPRESIONANTE, de principio a fin, cada capitulo tiene un sello impreso y unas escenas de accion que perdonan cualquier punto muerto en la trama, ademas de que tenemos cambios en el dibujado a menudo creo que ninguna de las escenas de accion sufren de ser pobres o de estar mal hechas, creo que el estilo artistico es uno de los puntos mas altos de todo el anime y de solo ver algunas de estas capturas que estan en el post espero que se hagan una idea de lo bien que se ve.
Es un anime que se va rapido y deja un impacto tremendo, sobretodo porque todo parece apuntar a que nunca habra una segunda temporada, es algo agridulce por donde se le mire pero una bonita experiencia cuando sabes apreciarlo, muy pocas series tienen el temple de entender lo que son las historias de una temporada, viven queriendo extender a sus personajes sin darles final, pero creo que en eso Edgerunners da un paso elegante acabando con todas las tramas en sus escasos episodios.
