Drinks have different connotations which means having a drink with a person can have various meanings associated with it depending on the context, culture or situation. For example, having a drink with a friend could mean a form of relaxation or celebration and also, drinking beer could imply a form of socialising at a bar or whatever location might suit the individual.

Some people might want to have a cup of tea or coffee, in some cultures, it may mean a form of hospitality or comfort while in others, it might symbolise a form of ceremony or formality. A lot of people drink for different purposes. While some would want to have a drink with the intention of clearing their mood or settling their brain from so many hectic tasks, others may just want to kill boredom while enjoying their solitude. While others would want to celebrate an achievement in a happy mood either with friends, families or alone.

There is a magical thing with drinking with people at a bar, coffee shop, parties etc, it forms this friendship and bond that could last forever and when they are asked how they met, they say something like "We met while having drinks at a friend's party and the likes". Drinks can create a sort of lifetime opportunity for people that would turn out as a surprise to another person. Drinking different kinds of beverages is to one's preferences and it's always an exciting moment. Drinks could seal a contract, it could be a symbol of love and unity, and many times heal a wound through encouraging words over a cup of whatever is being served.

Growing up, I was used to minerals like coke and fanta as I could take more than a bottle each day especially when it was so chilled and could melt away the stress. It became a daily tradition for me to take minerals and accompany them with snacks. There is this particular drink called 7UP which I take and not just take it, but it goes along with bread. It became a routine for me that without having bread with it, I wouldn't be able to drink it. I don't drink alcohol nor do I take alcoholic wine.

Someone confronted me with the reason why I don't take alcoholic drinks as a lady and I gave my reasons. Some would say you aren't mature enough if you don't take a pint of alcohol as it helps to cool one's mind and feel among. I don't want to belong to any association as I am okay doing my thing in my safe place. Whenever I need to celebrate myself, I go for non-alcoholic wine and most times, maltina which has now become my favourite drink and there is a reason behind it.

When I began noticing my health and discovered how much sugar I take into my body system through these soft drinks, I tested myself and found out I had pre-diabetes, I had to stop drinking minerals and shifted to only malt and sometimes, beverages like tea, or ordinary milk. I have stopped taking soft drinks for over two years now and I am fine. I just discovered another amazing drink last night called Milkshake. To be sincere, I never tasted it before until yesterday.

We were at the airport when I ordered for Milkshake when the book was brought for me to choose what I wanted, I chose a vanilla flavour and took a sip, it was an amazing one. I never knew the taste could be sweet and immediately, I fell in love with it.

I don't drink with friends except it calls for it. I am always indoors with my drink and it makes me feel happier doing it all alone while enjoying myself by either watching movies or listening to music.

    A memory to remember...

I had just finished my last paper at the University. I looked back and saw how the road was rough and stressful, I decided to celebrate the moment and invited my friends over to a close by restaurant where we only had some maltina which was a drink that was okay for us. We ordered 3 bottles, one for each, and talked about the journey, and how we coped and survived. The drinks were chilled and it washed away the struggle we had for years in the University, the saga with cruel lecturers, the nice ones and those who did not seem to care if we submitted assignments or not but would just award everyone marks because, to them, they have children too who would be at the mercy of other people. It was a nice experience to share our experiences and the future ahead of us.

When I am too tired and stressed from work, all I need at that time is a drink to cool my body off.
