🦉 The Eurasian siskin (Spinus spinus)
- Spinus spinos (Greek) unidentified bird mentioned Aristotle and other ancient Greek. authors.
These yellow birds appear in the forests around the beginning of April, when spring begins. Pairs are formed in winter during general migrations, when birds fly in a large flock in search of food.
Mostly birds choose spruce forests for residence, and less often pine and mixed forests. That’s why there are so few of them in the forest where I most often go.
These birds are most noticeable in autumn and winter. Flocks of these birds sit tightly on the tops of birch trees and peck seeds from catkins.
It happens that siskins are combined with a flock of redpolls, and this is not surprising, because they are close relatives.
