Are you ready for a new post? Today, I want to share my brief excursion to Geneva. Even though the trip only lasted half a day, I was able to discover and appreciate much of this fascinating city.
What really struck me was its dual personality: on one hand, the historic side, full of history and culture; on the other, a young and modern Geneva, dynamic and cutting-edge.

Siete pronti per un nuovo post? Oggi voglio raccontarvi della mia breve escursione a Ginevra. Anche se la durata del viaggio è stata di appena mezza giornata, sono riuscita a scoprire e apprezzare gran parte di questa affascinante città.
Mi ha davvero colpito la sua doppia anima: da un lato, la parte antica, ricca di storia e cultura, dall’altro una Ginevra giovane e moderna, dinamica e all’avanguardia.
Che ne pensate, vi ispira una visita a questa città?

Just a heads-up, be careful with the parking areas, as they’re all paid! Even though there’s a lot to walk around, my advice is to park your car and then explore the city on foot. Geneva is definitely a city not to be missed, especially if you're in France, as it's so close. The city overlooks the stunning Lake Geneva, which adds a unique charm to the landscape. Another tip: the weather can be quite chilly, so if you decide to visit in winter, make sure to dress warmly and bundle up properly!

Mi raccomando, fate attenzione alle zone di parcheggio, sono tutte a pagamento! Nonostante ci sia tanto da camminare, il mio consiglio è di parcheggiare la macchina e poi esplorare la città a piedi.
Ginevra è davvero una città da non perdere, soprattutto se vi trovate in Francia, perché è davvero vicinissima. La città si affaccia sul meraviglioso Lago di Ginevra, che aggiunge un fascino unico al panorama.
Un altro consiglio: il clima può essere piuttosto rigido, quindi se decidete di visitarla in inverno, ricordatevi di vestirvi bene e coprirvi adeguatamente!

The city has a truly picturesque historic center, reminiscent of charming northern cities like Edinburgh. The beating heart of this area is the Saint Pierre Cathedral, dating back to the 12th century. The entrance is impressive, with an architecture that recalls that of an ancient Roman temple, adorned with large Corinthian columns – a magnificent example of neoclassicism. Inside, you can admire frescoes and colorful stained-glass windows that add a unique beauty to the cathedral. Don't forget that this was also the place where Martin Luther lived for many years, making it a site of significant historical and cultural importance that should not be missed.

La città ha un centro storico davvero pittoresco, che ricorda le affascinanti città del nord, come Edimburgo. Il cuore pulsante di questa zona è la Cattedrale di Saint Pierre, risalente al XII secolo. L’ingresso è imponente, con un aspetto che richiama l’architettura di un antico tempio romano, adornato da grandi colonne in stile corinzio: un magnifico esempio di neoclassicismo.
All'interno, si possono ammirare affreschi e vetrate colorate che aggiungono una bellezza unica alla cattedrale. Non dimenticate che questo è anche il luogo che ha ospitato Martin Lutero per molti anni, quindi è sicuramente un punto di grande importanza storica e culturale da non perdere.

Another must-visit stop is Parc des Bastions, located right in the heart of Geneva. This park, surrounded by lush greenery, feels almost like a secluded spot far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Upon entering, the first thing that catches your eye is the giant chessboard, where anyone can challenge others to a game outdoors while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. As you continue through the park, it’s impossible to miss the Wall of the Reformers, a monumental tribute to those who advanced the Protestant Reformation. The wall, a large bas-relief, depicts several key figures of that time: John Calvin, Guillaume Farel, Théodore de Bèze, and John Knox, each of whom played a pivotal role in spreading the Reformation. It’s a place rich in history and culture, and definitely not to be missed.

Un'altra tappa imperdibile è il Parc des Bastions, situato proprio nel cuore di Ginevra. Questo parco, immerso in un verde lussureggiante, sembra quasi di trovarsi in un angolo lontano, lontano dalla frenesia della città. Una volta entrati, la prima cosa che colpisce è la gigantesca scacchiera, dove chiunque può sfidarsi a una partita all'aperto, godendosi l'atmosfera tranquilla.
Proseguendo nel parco, non si può fare a meno di notare il Muro dei Riformatori, un monumento imponente dedicato a coloro che hanno portato avanti la riforma protestante. Il muro, un grande bassorilievo, raffigura alcune delle figure principali di quel periodo: Giovanni Calvino, Guglielmo Farel, Teodoro di Beza e John Knox, ognuno dei quali ha avuto un ruolo cruciale nella diffusione della riforma. Un luogo carico di storia e cultura da non perdere assolutamente.

The last stop of my trip was the magnificent Lake Geneva, located in a more modern and industrialized area of the city. There, we had the opportunity to admire the flower clocks, one of the city's unique features. The clock is, in fact, one of Geneva's symbols, representing the watchmaking craftsmanship for which the city is world-famous. Geneva is truly a city full of surprises and is definitely worth visiting, especially if you're in the area. It’s a shame about the cloudy weather during my visit, because it would have been even more charming in spring or summer. I can’t wait to share more experiences with you! L'ultima tappa della mia escursione è stata il magnifico Lago di Ginevra, situato in una zona della città più moderna e industrializzata. Lì abbiamo avuto l'opportunità di ammirare gli orologi di fiori, una delle peculiarità della città. L'orologio, infatti, è uno dei simboli di Ginevra, rappresentando l'arte orologiera per cui la città è famosa nel mondo.
Ginevra è davvero una città piena di sorprese e merita di essere visitata, soprattutto se vi trovate nei dintorni. Peccato per il tempo uggioso durante la mia visita, perché sicuramente in primavera o estate avrebbe avuto un altro fascino.
Non vedo l'ora di condividere con voi nuove esperienze!
