Chhola Masala- Punjabi Northern Indian Recipe

    Today i would like to share the recipe of Chhola masala(Chickpea Gravy). It's Northern Punjabi cuisine but Almost like by everyone, there are huge way of making the Chhola gravy, even i try to make it differently everytime, believe me everytime it's tastes more delicious and tasty. Today also i would like to share the one pot recipe, as 'm too lazing in cooking and even in washing the dishes. This Indian chickpea curry features a hearty mixture of chickpeas, tomatoes, onion, green chili, and warm Indian spices. We usually have Chhola gravy at special occasion but now it is common in my house, i have chhola gravy once in every 15 days. Try this indian recipes, you will love it.

    Ingredients 📃


    • 1 cup of white Chickpea.
    • Pinch of Baking Soda
    • 3 tbsp of Cooking Oil
    • 1/2 cumins seeds.
    • Pinch of Asafoetida.
    • 2 Finely chopped Onion.
    • 2 Tomato Puree.
    • 1 small stick of cinnamon.
    • 1 Black cardamom.
    • 4-5 Black pepper.
    • 4-5 Cloves.
    • 1 tbsp of turmeric Powder.
    • 1 tbsp of Red Chilli Powder.
    • 2 tbsp of Chhola masala.
    • 2 tbsp of Coriander powder.
    • 1 tbsp of Dried Mango powder.
    • Salt to Taste.
    • Green Coriander leaves for Garnish.


    Preparation 📃


    Rinse 1 cup white chickpeas in fresh water a couple of times. Then soak them overnight in a big bowl with Sufficient water.

    Now take a pressure Cooker, add the Soaked chickpea, add the Baking Soda and Soft, sufficient water.

    Pressure cook the chickpeas for 12 to 15 whistles on medium heat.

    The chickpeas should be cooked well and softened enough that you can mash them with a spoon.

    Your Chickpea is ready to Cook, keed it aside.

    Take a pressure cooker, Heat the oil, add Cumins seeds, asafoetida, Black pepper, cloves, cinnamon & Cardamom all together, Saute it for 2-3 Sec in Medium Flame. After that Add the Chopped Onion, saute it untill it get aromatic or Golden Brown in colour.

    Now add the tomatoes puree, saute it medium flame, Add the other indian Spices Mentioned above, cook it untill it realease oil from the sides.

    Once your Masala is well cooked, now add the Boiled cheakpea in the masala.

    Mix well the chickpea with masala, so that chickpeas get coated with masala.

    At low flame, cook it for another 6-7 minutes.

    Serve the Hot Chhola Masala with Rice, Bhatura or With Roti depending on your choice and Taste.
