My Goats Arrived Today

Animal husbandry is an area I have been wanting to explore for some time now and my excuse has always been "I don't have enough time for that, maybe later". And that 'later' is now.
I had ordered for the African dwarf goat, the male and the female and I was told that it was in very short supply because of the very high demand but they would look around for me. This happened about a month ago. Then just this morning, I was called that they were ready. So my goats arrived this morning.

This is the male, with the white and black pattern.

The female is all black and very stubborn. It ran into the shrubs to hide and I couldn't get more pictures of her.

Oh no! The male is eating up my vegetables over there.

When I came closer, he took to his heels.

By the weekend, I will prepare their place at the backyard so I can keep them away from my plants and vegetables.

I remember how living in the village had taught me a lot of things and for so many years afterwards, I want to put to good use all I learnt. I want to live a more self-sufficient life and also connect to the Land and to Nature.
African dwarf goats are disease resistant, easy to manage, excellent milk producers and also has excellent taste. Though I'm keeping them for personal consumption, I never can tell if it can become commercial but the most advantage of rearing them is the low cost maintenance. Their food can be sourced around without having to rely on expensive commercial feeds. It is sustainable and I know that I can do it.
