We are in Siracusa - on the east coast of Sicily in italy. and in particular we are right on the tip of the island of Ortiga.
And we are looking at an artwork called 'Ikaria Grande' and it's by Polish artist Igor Mitoraj
This is what is said about his style on Wikipedia: Mitoraj's sculptural style is based on the classical tradition with its focus on the well modelled torso. However, Mitoraj introduced a post-modern twist with ostentatiously truncated limbs, emphasising the damage sustained by many authentic classical sculptures. Often his works aim to address the attributes of the human body, its beauty and fragility, its suffering as well as deeper aspects of human nature, which with the passing of time undergo degeneration.
and of course Ikaria is Icarus - a fella who fashioned some wings out of beewax to do some flying, but alast got a bit close to the sun and they melted and he fell to a ground.
