Hello everyone! Today I would like to tell you more about my experiences in the Icelandic winter. This time it's about one of the main sights of the Icelandic capital Reykjavik. The largest church in the city is called Hallgrímskirkja and is impressive both from the outside and the inside. Why? Find it out in the following paragraphs.
Hallo zusammen! Heute möchte ich weiter von meinen Erlebnissen im isländischen Winter berichten. Diesmal geht es um eine der Hauptsehenswürdigkeiten der isländischen Hauptstadt Reykjavik. Die größte Kirche der Stadt trägt den Namen Hallgrímskirkja und beeindruckt sowohl von außen, wie auch von innen. Warum? Das erfahrt ihr in den folgenden Absätzen.
As you approach Hallgrímskirkja, you quickly realise that this fascinating architectural masterpiece dominates the cityscape. Its striking exterior is characterised by a modern interpretation of Nordic sacred buildings, dominated by clear lines and simple elegance. The church tower rises majestically into the sky and is the tallest building in Reykjavik at a height of 74.5 metres. The church, designed by Guðjón Samúelsson and completed in 1986, is a landmark of the city and attracts visitors from all over the world who come to admire its impressive architecture.
Wenn man sich der Hallgrímskirkja nähert, wird einem schnell klar, dass dieses faszinierende architektonische Meisterwerk das Stadtbild prägt. Ihr markantes Äußeres zeichnet sich durch eine moderne Interpretation von nordischen Sakralbauten aus, wobei klare Linien und eine schlichte Eleganz dominieren. Der Turm der Kirche ragt majestätisch in den Himmel und ist mit einer Höhe von 74,5 Metern das höchste Gebäude in Reykjavik. Die Kirche, entworfen von Guðjón Samúelsson und fertiggestellt im Jahr 1986, ist ein Wahrzeichen der Stadt und zieht Besucher aus aller Welt an, die ihre beeindruckende Architektur bewundern möchten.
The interior of Hallgrímskirkja fascinates with its simple elegance and spacious layout. The high ceilings and minimalist design lend the interior an atmosphere of calm and contemplation. The light floods through the coloured windows and creates an impressive interplay of shadows and colours. The chancel is kept simple and has a minimalistic appearance. The organ, one of the largest in Iceland, sits enthroned at the back of the church and fascinates with its impressive size and richness of sound. I particularly enjoyed taking photos here with different focal lengths from super wide-angle to telephoto.
Das Innere der Hallgrímskirkja fasziniert mit seiner schlichten Eleganz und seiner großzügigen Raumaufteilung. Die hohen Decken und die minimalistische Gestaltung verleihen dem Innenraum eine Atmosphäre der Ruhe und Besinnlichkeit. Das Licht flutet durch die farbigen Fenster und erzeugt ein eindrucksvolles Spiel aus Schattenspielen und Farben. Der Altarraum ist schlicht gehalten und wirkt minimalistisch. Die Orgel, eine der größten Islands, thront im hinteren Teil der Kirche und fasziniert mit ihrer beeindruckenden Größe und Klangfülle. Ich genoss es besonders, hier mit verschiedenen Brennweiten vom Super-Weitwinkel bis zum Tele-Bereich zu fotografieren.
Now it was time to visit the church tower and see Reykjavik from above. This costs the equivalent of just under €19 per person. However, nobody checked the tickets on the day of our visit. So maybe you could be cheeky and just take the lift without a ticket. From the tower, you can enjoy a panoramic view over the colourful rooftops of Reykjavik, the vast waters of the Atlantic and the majestic mountains in the distance. Here you have the opportunity to experience the city from a unique perspective and admire the beauty of Iceland from above.
Nun war es an der Zeit, den Kirchturm zu besuchen und Reykjavik von oben zu betrachten. Dies kostet umgerechnet knapp 19€ pro Person. Allerdings kontrollierte am Tag unseres Besuchs niemand die Tickets. Eventuell könnte man also frech sein und einfach den Lift nehmen, ohne ein Ticket zu besitzen. Vom Turm aus erstreckt sich ein Panoramablick über die bunte Dächerlandschaft von Reykjavik, die weiten Gewässer des Atlantiks und die majestätischen Berge in der Ferne. Hier hat man die Möglichkeit, die Stadt aus einer einzigartigen Perspektive zu erleben und die Schönheit Islands von oben zu bewundern.
The visit to Hallgrímskirkja was an unforgettable experience for me and my fiancée and one of the highlights of Reykjavik. If you ever visit the Icelandic capital, this sight should definitely be at the top of your list.
Der Besuch der Hallgrímskirkja war für mich und meine Verlobte ein unvergessliches Erlebnis und eines der Highlights von Reykjavik. Falls ihr mal die isländische Hauptstadt besucht, sollte diese Sehenswürdigkeit unbedingt sehr weit oben auf eurer Liste stehen.
