2 Corinthians 9:7 (KJV) Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

As christians we do not give tithes. Tithing was God's commandment to the Israelites in the Old Covenant. We are in the new covenant. In the new covenant, tithing is not allowed. This is because the Bible says that when the priesthood is changed the law will be changed.

In the church, the members of the church are allowed to make contributions at their own free will. There is no compulsion on giving. There is no percentage. But true disciples of Jesus Christ are those which God can trust in their hearts. There are to make free will, voluntary contributions. There is no compulsion on the giving of money in the church.

Tithing has a pegged percentage on it. 10% is the required percentage of tithing. That is not applicable in the church age anymore. In the church our giving is out of free will.

The church have need of money. There are bills to pay and other things that require financial assistance. We are the disciples of Jesus Christ and members of the church. We are the ones who will ensure that the work of God is done so we make the contributions to support the propagation of the gospel.
