This grouping of birdhouses came about when the weeping cherry tree died a few years back. All the bird houses are homes to sparrows every summer.
This birdhouse hangs from my greenhouse and a matching one is on the opposite side too. This large woodpecker is eating the suet nearby. The resident sparrows were away from the nesting box at the time, it was probably a good thing as the birds would not have liked seeing this big guy.

The woodpeckers are odd-looking birds and are fun to watch when they are young during the summer months.
This male sparrow is guarding the house while the female is out looking for food for the babies inside.
