Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've been here, I was able to take a couple of hours to watch a movie I had downloaded on my tablet to watch when I had no electricity. It is Six Triple Eight, a touching movie, plagued by many clichés. And when I say a lot of clichés, there came a time when I squinted at the absurd things I was seeing. I realized early on that, despite being a film about a regiment of black women during World War II, this film was going to have some problems, and it shows in the final product.

¡Hola a todos! Tenía tiempo sin pasar por acá, pude tomarme un par de horas para ver una película que había descargado en la tablet para ver cuando no tuviera electricidad. Se trata de Six Triple Eight, una película conmovedora, plagada de muchos clichés. Y cuando digo muchos, ea que llegué un momento en que entorné los ojos de las cosas absurdas que estaba viendo. Me di cuenta desde el principio de que, a pesar de ser una película que cuenta acerca de un regimiento de mujeres negras durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, esta película iba a tener algunos problemas y lo demuestra en el producto final.
When we see a movie based on the Second World War, there is always a very clear focus. It may be war, showing one side of those involved, or the other, telling us about the hardships of the Jews, or how some strategies were carried out. I particularly love to watch films on this subject, and I enjoy them a lot.
As I told you, the 6888th Regiment was the only black women's regiment that was part of the U.S. Army in World War II. It shows the story from the point of view of Lena, a black woman who enlists in the army to fight against Hitler. After going through her internment, she was sent along with about 800 other women to carry out a mission to Europe. The mission was to collect and classify 17 million letters and send them to their senders, who had no news of their relatives or the soldiers fighting.

Cuando vemos una película basada en la Segunda Guerra Mundial, siempre hay un enfoque muy claro, puede que sea bélica, que muestre un lado de los involucrados, o el otro, que nos cuenten cosas de las penurias de los judíos, o de cómo se llevaron a cabo algunas estrategias. A mí en lo particular me encanta ver películas de este tema y me las disfruto un montón.Como ya les dije, el regimiento 6888, fue el único regimiento de mujeres negras que formaron parte del ejército estadounidense en la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Muestra la historia desde el punto de vista de Lena, una mujer negra que se enlista en el ejército para combatir a Hitler y después de pasar por su entrañamiento, fue enviada junto alrededor de 800 mujeres más a realizar una misión a Europa. La misión se trató de recopilar y clasificar 17 millones de cartas y ser enviadas a sus remitentes quienes no tenían noticias de sus familiares o de los soldados que combatían.
From my point of view, this is a solid story, there is a clear theme, with a protagonist who went to war for a goal. What didn't appeal to me about the film is that it was technically mediocre. I felt like I was watching a 2000s made for TV movie. The editing was terrible, the performances left a lot to be desired, except for Kerry Washington, who plays Commander Adams, really was the only standout role.
I consider that what was worse was the confusing approach they gave to the film. There were many elements to internalize and exploit, such as the classification of correspondence. They only made a scene with a dialogue explaining what they were going to do. In the movies, we have the ability to explain visually, and it gives a richer power to all this. They could have given more power to the character of Eleanor Roosevelt, played by Susan Sarandon, which I found cartoonish. Or that of Mary McLeod Bethune, a black woman fighting for black women's rights who was played by Oprah Winfrey.

Desde mi punto de vista, esto es una historia sólida, hay un tema claro, con una protagonista que se fue a la guerra por un objetivo. Lo que no me atrajo de la película es que fue técnicamente mediocre. Me parecía que estaba viendo una película de los 2000 hechas para televisión. la edición fue terrible, las actuaciones dejaron mucho que desear, a excepción de Kerry Washington, quien interpreta a la comandante Adams, realmente fue el único papel resaltante.Considero que lo que fue peor, fue el enfoque confuso que le dieron a la película, había muchos elementos para interiorizar y explotar, como por ejemplo la clasificación de la correspondencia, solo hicieron una escena con un diálogo explicando que iban a hacer, cuando en el cine tenemos la capacidad de explicar visualmente y le da un poder más rico a todo esto. If they didn't want to do this, they could go deep into the camaraderie between the women, how they strengthen the bonds between them during times of war. Show us the struggle of these women who were also black in a world where they were oppressed. They show it from the commander's point of view, but they could have made much more of the story. Or made it completely romantic, which was another quite valid point of view.
I was left with a bittersweet taste after watching this movie, because it is made with a completely hackneyed movie formula, full of clichés and very superfluous. It frustrates me because it was an excellent subject that they couldn't get enough juice out of.Is it watchable? Yes, it's on Netflix, you can watch it over there, it's an entertaining movie, I just expected much more. I hope you liked my review, see you another time.

Si no querían hacer esto, podían profundidad en la camaradería entre las mujeres, entre como se fortalecen los lazos entre ellas durante tiempos de guerra. Que nos mostraran la lucha de estas mujeres que además eran negras en un mundo en el que eran oprimidas. Lo muestran desde el punto de vista de la comandante, pero pudieron haberle sacado mucho más jugo a la historia. O hacerla completamente romántica, que era otro punto de vista bastante válido.Yo quedé con un sabor agridulce después de ver esta película, porque está hecha con una fórmula cinematográfica completamente trillada, llena de clichés y muy superflua. Me frustra porque era un excelente tema del que no pudieron sacarle el jugo suficiente. ¿Se deja ver? Sí, está en Netflix, la pueden por allí, es una película entretenida, solo que yo esperaba mucho más. Espero que les haya gustado mi reseña, nos leemos en otra oportunidad.
