Larry begins his look at today in history from the world of exploration and discovery. He finds out that on this day in 1926, Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen, American scientist Lincoln Ellsworth, and Italian engineer Umberto Nobile flew the first indisputable flight over the North Pole aboard the semirigid airship Norge.
From the world of exploration and discovery, Larry goes to China. He finds out that on this day in 2008, a powerful earthquake devastated China's Sichuan province, causing widespread devastation and killing an estimated 90,000 people.
From China, Larry goes to the Old Soviet Union. He finds out that on this day in 19494, The Soviet Union lifted its blockade of Berlin.
From the Old Soviet Union, Larry goes to Italy. He finds out that on this day in 1820, Florence Nightingale, an English nurse who pioneered trained nursing as a career for women, was born in Florence, Italy; International Nurses Day is observed on her birthday.
From Thailand, Larry goes to Spain. He finds out that on this day in 1984, Andrés Iniesta, a Spanish football (soccer) player, helped his team win the Euro title in 2008 and 2012, as well as the 2010 World Cup was born in Fuentealbilla, Spain.
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from Nigeria. He finds out that on this day in 1996, Nnamdi Azikiwe was the first President of independent Nigeria (1963–1966) and a notable nationalist died in Enugu Nigeria.
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
