Today I want to talk about an experience that was different for us and that we really enjoyed. It was a different morning that allowed us to get to know a little more about the city of Porto but in a different way. Something I had never experienced.

At Porto customs there are several exhibitions throughout the year and it is not always possible for us to visit them all. The one we went to see is called “Porto Legends, the Underground Experience”.

Na alfândega do Porto existem várias exposições ao longo do ano e nem sempre nos é possível visitar todas. A que fomos ver tem o nome de “Porto Legends, the Underground Experience”.

It is a unique, audiovisual experience of three hundred and sixty degrees. We go down to the "catacombs", put on some phones with the language we prefer (Portuguese or English) and wait for the order to enter. We stand in a small area (it is not possible for many people to enter at the same time, so you can make the most of this place) and wait for someone to tell us that we can enter.

É uma experiencia única, audiovisual de trezentos e sessenta graus. Descemos às "catacumbas", colocamos uns phones com a linguagem que preferimos (português ou inglês) e a aguardamos a ordem para entrar. Ficamos parados num pequeno recinto (não é possível a entrada de muitas pessoas em simultâneo, para que se possa tirar o máximo proveito deste local) e aguardamos que nos indiquem que podemos entrar.

You are asked not to touch the walls, but there are several benches around the room for anyone who wants to sit. As soon as the legends begin to be told, it seems that we enter a new dimension. The little ones run happily through the corridors to observe the images that are projected on various screens, walls, ceilings but in a continuous way. I confess that initially it was difficult for me to see everything that was going on and I chose to always be moving around.
The show lasts around 45 minutes and to be performed outside, around one hundred and twenty costumes, seventy actors, thirty video artists and fifty projectors are needed to make everything an unforgettable experience.

É pedido para não tocar nas paredes mas pelo recinto estão vários bancos para quem se quiser sentar. Assim que as lendas começam a ser contadas, parece que entramos numa nova dimensão. Os mais pequenos correm felizes pelos corredores para poderem observaras imagens que são projectadas em várias telas, paredes, tectos mas de uma forma continua. Confesso que inicialmente me foi dificil ver tudo o que se passava e optei por estar sempre a circular.
O espetáculo tem duração de cerca de 45 minutos e para ser realizado fora,m necessários cerca de cento e vinte figurinos, setenta actores, trinta artistas de vídeo e cinquenta projectores para que tudo seja uma experiencia inesquecível.

Of the legends that are narrated here we can learn about the 1755 Earthquake, Pedro Cem, As tripas à moda do Porto, Barão Forrester, Zé do Telhado, the mystery of the Treasury of Serra do Pilar; The Siege of Porto and its Dragon, The ghost of the last nun, Miragaia and finally River of Oblivion.

Fascinating, at least for me, as I lost it and forgot where I was, such was the attention to every detail. I believe that no matter how many photos and videos I could put here, I would not be able to convey how spectacular it is.

We took advantage of the late morning and even took a walk along the banks of our Douro River. We don't always go this way because lately it's been full of tourists and most of the time we don't have anywhere to park the car :-(

Aproveitamos o final da manhã e ainda demos um passeio pelas margens do nosso rio Douro. Nem sempre vimos para estes lados pois ultimamente tem estado apinhado de turistas e na maior parte das vezes não temos onde estacionar o carro :-(
