Hello everyone. Chiang Mai is another northern province of Thailand with many temples. Most temples have a unique identity that is different from temples in other regions. And most temples in this province are built in the Lanna style (ancient Northern tradition, culture and art). In the past several posts I have shared many temples in rural area in Chiang Mai. But in this post, I would like to share with you a temple in an urban area in this province. This temple is called Wat Si Chomphu.

Wat Si Chomphu is located along Highway 107 Chiang Mai-Fang. This temple is a small common monastery located in the urban area of San Pong Subdistrict, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai. There is no information on the construction of this temple and the royal granting of the land to a particular temple by announcing in royal decree. But this temple received permission to establish itself as a temple in AD 1916, or 108 years ago.

On this trip, my wife and I visited this temple last month. This temple is about 125 kilometers from our home. Journey to the temple, I had to drive on the rural road and highway 107. Some atmosphere of the journey are the road winds over the plateau and plain. We will see villages, farms, forests and mountains.

When we arrived at the temple. We saw the sign of the temple first. The temple sign is made of simple wood.

Interesting highlights of this temple. The first highlight is the temple entrance arch. The entrance arch is also made of wood. But the interesting thing about this arch is that it is built in Lanna style. And you can see the uniqueness of the Lanna style clearly and beautifully.

And on the pillars of the wall between the entrances under this arch were two statues of lions.

The second highlight is the buddha image hall (viharn). This temple does not have a ordination hall (ubosot), but only a buddha image hall (viharn). The interestingness of the buddha image hall (viharn) is the beautiful stucco decoration of the doors, windows and the front of the buddha image hall (viharn). Additionally, the front of the buddha image hall (viharn) is decorated with beautiful oil paintings. And there is the entrance staircase of the buddha image hall (viharn) is a serpent staircase decorated with beautiful patterns.

Interesting highlights of temple : the third highlight is the pagoda. This temple has a striking pagoda on the side of the buddha image hall (viharn). A white polygonal pagoda with a bell-shaped top and tierred umbrella. This pagoda sits on a white foundation which is a large square room. And there is also the staircase leading up to the pagoda. The 5-headed serpent staircase, adding to the distinctiveness of this pagoda.

The fourth highlight is a buddha image in a small pavilion. The interesting about this buddha image is that buddha image is made in the Lanna style with two serpent statues. Looks unique and beautiful.

Additionally, the temple also has other buddha images and statues.

Finally, I would like to share the bell tower of the temple. I think the bell tower of the temple is another interesting highlight of this temple. This bell tower has 2 floors. And it is a bell tower that is clearly built in the original Lanna style.

These are the stories and photos of Wat Si Chomphu I want to share for this post. Invite everyone to see and enjoy my stories and photos. Have a great day. See you next time. Thank you for your support and visiting my post. Bye 🤗
