One interesting thing about life is reminiscing about the past and smiling because of certain things you did back then.
What's the longest time you've spent binge-watching a show (or number of films) or getting lost in a game? Think back to that epic session where you couldn't pull yourself away.
The longest time? I don’t think I can count it anymore because I have had so many of those, and each time I went on that journey, it was fun.
For a movie lover like me, it doesn’t take anything for me to get lost in the world of the movie, especially when the movie is an interesting one, and if I have my way I could beg the directors of my favorite movies to release more seasons or sequels because I always find it difficult to say goodbye to my favorite characters.
If I could recount the longest time I've spent binge-watching a movie or series, that would be when I was still in High school.
I remember that faithful day so well because it was so nice and interesting, that I and my siblings almost finished the entire Avatar season 2 in a day.
During that time, Avatar was the rave; every child or teenager wanted to watch it, and if you didn’t, it felt like you were behind. My siblings and I were opportune to be gifted with the Avatar DVD.
On that day, my Dad and Aunt had traveled, so it was just us and my cousin at home, and my cousin didn’t mind us staying up late. We didn’t need to scramble to bed by 9 as per my Dad's order because Daddy was gone, we were our own bosses and we did what bosses did.
It all started at 7 pm, we had our bath and had dinner. We turned off the light and made the sitting room cozy so we could get the cinema experience and we did. Taking our various positions and with me handling the remote I started the cartoon.
We watched and watched this cartoon that we didn’t know when it was dawn, and if they didn’t interrupt the power, we probably would have missed school that day.
The cartoon was so interesting that we just couldn’t stop, we couldn’t even deal with the suspense of the next episode and not to talk about waiting till we get back from school.
The more we watched the more curious we were about Katara and Avatar Aang’s love, we couldn’t help but feel sorry for how Aang blamed himself for how bad the world was and we definitely couldn’t get over Toph the blind but powerful earth bender, simply put, there was so much at stake and surrendering wasn’t an option.
We were brought back to reality the moment they interrupted the power, the moment we checked the time, we screamed because we knew we were screwed. We knew there was no way to avoid the severe punishment that awaited us at our school gate because of our lateness.
Getting severely punished by our teachers wasn’t the only consequence of our binging, we had to deal with sleeping in class.
I personally was caught sleeping a couple of times in class. One of my teachers had to ask me to stand up for a while, but while standing, I was still sleeping 😂😂 Oh yes, it was that bad.
The teacher moved from being angry to being concerned and asked if I was ill and I didn’t hesitate to nod my head in the affirmative.
I played the sick card that always got me out of trouble and I was immediately asked to be taken to the sick bay.
I got to the sick bay, and I didn’t even know how my body cooperated with this charade of mine, but it did, and it became hot. I calmly told the nurse it was stress and that I needed time to rest. Ladies and gentlemen that was how I slept for two hours straight, making up for the previous night.
I woke feeling refreshed and happy. I conquered all the odds that came with binge-watching my favorite cartoon and I and my siblings went on another round later that week😂
