En Venezuela cada 12 de febrero paradójicamente celebramos el día de la juventud, pues, en realidad fueron pocos los jóvenes que fueron a la Batalla de la Victoria junto al general José F. Rivas que sobrevivieron a este suceso. No obstante, todo puede adquirir sentido si lo miramos desde otra perspectiva. Es la que quisiera transmitir en este post, puesto que celebrar el día de la juventud es una ocasión propicia para considerar esas aptitudes juveniles que si aprendemos a conservarlas nos van a permitir gozar de una eterna juventud. De hecho, por eso hoy no celebramos simplemente el día de los jóvenes sino el día de la juventud.
Sueños
Los sueños de un país libre fueron los que movieron a aquellos jóvenes venezolanos de principios del siglo XIX, en efecto, para mí es la motivación que tuvieron para que a pesar de que nunca habían ido al campo de batalla y que no sabían manejar ningún instrumento de guerra, estuvieran dispuestos a luchar por esa noble causa. Unos sueños que seguramente también estarían alimentados por los sueños de otras personas, sus seres más cercanos que ansiaban vehementemente la libertad. En este sentido, fueron jóvenes valientes que no les dio miedo soñar en grande, ya que por su sangre corría una especie de sagrado patriotismo.
Una de las cosas que con más frecuencia nos sucede a medida que avanzamos en edad, o como decimos somos adultos, hemos madurado, es que dejamos morir nuestros sueños, y esto nunca lo debemos permitir, ya que si de joven soñábamos tanto, hasta "conquistar el mundo" si así fuere necesario, ¿Qué es lo que nos ha pasado? Por eso, pienso que una de las cosas que nos mantiene con ese espíritu juvenil es no dejar de soñar, claramente los sueños tienen sus variaciones o matices en el tiempo, sea como fuere no dejemos de tenerlos.
Compromiso
El compromiso es el hermano perdido de los sueños, ya que muchos no lo hacen realidad precisamente porque esto les hace falta en sus vidas. En efecto, podamos soñar en un mejor porvenir, en una mejor situación financiera, en tener "x" o "y" cosa, etc. pero si no ponemos manos a la obra para conseguirlo nunca lo vamos a lograr. Los jóvenes que fueron a la hoy recordada batalla de la victoria, tenían claro esto, por ello se dispusieron de tal manera que su compromiso fue admirable, incluso literalmente para algunos fue "hasta derramar su sangre".
Es esta la prueba de fuego para nuestra voluntad, ya que no basta con trazarnos metas y propósitos, sino que el compromiso es necesario. Los jóvenes buscan esto, ya que saben que sus ideales tienen que tener alguna forma de realización, cuando la encuentran se entregan a ella en cuerpo y alma. Por eso, la formación de estas generaciones es importante, de ella depende en gran medida la dirección que las mismas quieran dar a sus vidas. Afiancemos o recobremos nuestros compromisos con nuestros ideales, es lo único que nos dará la satisfacción de una vida con sentido.
Servicio
El servicio genuino de los jóvenes les lleva a darse cuenta de que sus sueños y compromisos con alguna acción social es un aporte significativo a los seres humanos, en el caso del hecho que conmemoramos hoy fue nada más y nada menos que un empuje importante para la instauración definitiva de la libertad de la Nación. Hoy también mi experiencia ha sido como cuando a los jóvenes se le ofrece un servicio específico, se les ayuda a descubrir o darle el norte a su existencia, una razón de ser para estar en el mundo.
En cualquier edad es útil que volvamos a la certeza de que tenemos una misión intransferible e importante en este mundo, que estamos llamados a dejar nuestro aporte para que las sociedades se desarrollen y el mundo evolucione para bien. El espíritu de la juventud es dinámico por naturaleza, que este nunca nos falta para en cualquier momento de nuestras vidas estemos dispuestos a servir, así nos mantenemos siempre joven.

In Venezuela, every February 12, paradoxically, we celebrate the day of the youth, because, in reality, few of the young people who went to the Battle of Victory with General José F. Rivas survived this event. However, everything can make sense if we look at it from another perspective. This is the one I would like to convey in this post, since celebrating Youth Day is a propitious occasion to consider those youthful skills that if we learn to preserve them will allow us to enjoy eternal youth. In fact, that is why today we are not simply celebrating youth day, but youth day.
Dreams
The dreams of a free country were what moved those young Venezuelans of the early 19th century, indeed, for me it is the motivation they had so that even though they had never been to the battlefield and did not know how to handle any instrument of war, they were willing to fight for that noble cause. Dreams that were surely also fueled by the dreams of other people, their closest ones who vehemently longed for freedom. In this sense, they were brave young men who were not afraid to dream big, for in their blood ran a kind of sacred patriotism.
One of the things that most often happens to us as we advance in age, or as we say we are adults, we have matured, is that we let our dreams die, and this we should never allow, because if when we were young we dreamed so much, even to "conquer the world" if necessary, what has happened to us? Therefore, I think that one of the things that keeps us with that youthful spirit is not to stop dreaming, clearly dreams have their variations or nuances over time, however, let's not stop having them.
Commitment
Commitment is the lost brother of dreams, since many do not make it come true precisely because it is lacking in their lives. Indeed, we may dream of a better future, of a better financial situation, of having "x" or "y" thing, etc., but if we do not put our hands to work to achieve it, we will never achieve it. The young men who went to the today remembered battle of victory, were clear about this, that is why they set out in such a way that their commitment was admirable, even literally for some it was "to the point of spilling their blood".
This is the litmus test for our will, since it is not enough to set goals and purposes, but commitment is necessary. Young people seek this, since they know that their ideals must have some form of realization, and when they find it, they give themselves to it body and soul. For this reason, the formation of these generations is important; the direction they want to give to their lives depends to a great extent on it. Let us strengthen or recover our commitment to our ideals, it is the only thing that will give us the satisfaction of a meaningful life.
Service
The genuine service of young people leads them to realize that their dreams and commitments to some social action is a significant contribution to human beings, in the case of the event we commemorate today was nothing more and nothing less than an important push for the final establishment of the freedom of the Nation. Today my experience has also been like when young people are offered a specific service, it helps them to discover or give a north to their existence, a reason to be in the world.
At any age it is useful to return to the certainty that we have a non-transferable and important mission in this world, that we are called to make our contribution so that societies develop and the world evolves for the better. The spirit of youth is dynamic by nature, that we never lack it so that at any moment of our lives we are ready to serve, thus we remain forever young.
