There are some fruits and nuts that are not available all year round and neither can it be found in the 36states of the country. Hence the need for importation of some fruits from other states into Ilorin where we live and export of fruits grown here to other state of our country as well. Even within a country the types of crops been planted differ from places to places.

Grains are typically much more grown in common in Ilorin compared to fruits but you can equally find some fruits as we go further into the villages here. I have seen Pawpaw, Mango and Cashew around but one fruit I have found been grown in this state.
Can’t say if I have a favorite fruits but often times I don’t hesitate to eat Bananas, Pawpaw, Mangoes and Oranges and Pineapples occasionally.

I often live in expectation of which fruit is coming in next from the north or any other state for us.
The African star apple is not an all seasonal fruits and you only find it mostly in the winter. Back in my hometown in Benue state we have the fruit tree covering everywhere and so it is with bananas orange and others. Benue state Nigeria is a very fertile soil with good weather that is perfect for growing fruits. Most of the oranges consumed in this part of the country is grown in Benue state.

African star Apple called Udara in Igbo language came into town about a month ago but I haven’t giving it a good time knowing that it if often a game of luck to find a sweet one.
The fruit can go sour in a minimum so when a new fruit comes into season I give it a good time spacing before thinking about eating it.

Udara contain a good amount of fibre hence it is good for digestion and I was even surprised to see that it contains some decent amount of vitamin C.

Yesterday I decided to snack on some nuts and fruits. With a few cents I gots some Tiger nuts both the fresh and dried one along side date fruits and the African star Apple you see here.

Been confused about which of the fruits and nuts to buy I got a bit of everything, I love tiger nuts and another special milk like drink we often make with tiger nuts, the milk used to feed babies who have lost their mothers at infancy and very rich in nutrients.

I equally got some date too, I prefer natural sugar to the artificial ones and recently I have been thinking of a possible idea on how I can extra date sugar or process them into something we can add into our tea or cereals but for now I often break it into tiny pieces and scatter them in my cereals anytime I am in need of sugar.
I really do prefer sugar like honey and also the one in date fruit here here.
Learning about food processing and preservation is one important aspect of agriculture.
