Good morning Hivers, today I'm taking you to a place that I visited and was very impressed by me, I love ancient castles and medieval villages and today I'm taking you to Montecuccolo Castle, one of the oldest fortresses in the municipality of Frignano in Pavullo.
I visited this castle during the trip I took for my wedding anniversary to Lama Mocogno in the Emilian Apennines, a trip whose description you will find in the links at the end of this post. To get to the castle there is a beautiful road in the middle of the hills and the castle is also located in a small village in the middle of the greenery.
The castle of Montecuccolo can be easily reached and is surrounded not only by a charming village inhabited by a large park where you can picnic and relax, furthermore for trekking enthusiasts various excursion routes depart from the castle. The castle can be visited inside at certain times of the year, unfortunately we found it closed.

Buenos días Hivers, hoy os llevo a un lugar que visité y quedé muy impresionado, me encantan los castillos antiguos y los pueblos medievales y hoy os llevo al Castillo de Montecuccolo, una de las fortalezas más antiguas del municipio de Frignano en Pavullo.
Visité este castillo durante el viaje que hice por mi aniversario de boda a Lama Mocogno en los Apeninos Emilianos, viaje cuya descripción encontraréis en los enlaces al final de este post. Para llegar al castillo hay un hermoso camino en medio de las colinas y el castillo también se encuentra en un pequeño pueblo en medio del verdor.
El castillo de Montecuccolo es de fácil acceso y está rodeado no sólo por un encantador pueblo habitado por un gran parque donde se puede hacer un picnic y relajarse, además, para los amantes del senderismo, desde el castillo parten varias rutas de excursión. El castillo se puede visitar por dentro en determinadas épocas del año, lamentablemente lo encontramos cerrado.
The castle was created by Matilde of Canossa as a support castle for her travels, later it was given to the Este family who put their supporters to live there, it is also said that one of the greatest war strategists of the 17th century Raimondo Montecuccoli to whom the castle owes its current name. The castle was almost destroyed by Napoleonic soldiers who made it almost uninhabitable and ruined many rooms, to date not all areas of the castle have been recovered despite it being restored since the 1960s.
The castle was initially also used as a defensive tower and today it is only a place for visits. For us it was a pleasant walk and we also visited the small village below which is entirely made of ancient rock and seems to be in another century, the houses are really pretty and colourful. It is a very small and quiet village. A place of peace with a small church dedicated to San Lorenzo. If you happen to take a trip to Pavullo nel Frignano I recommend you visit this small castle and the village.

El castillo fue creado por Matilde de Canossa como castillo de apoyo para sus viajes, posteriormente fue cedido a la familia Este quienes pusieron a vivir allí a sus seguidores, también se dice que uno de los más grandes estrategas de guerra del siglo XVII Raimondo Montecuccoli a quien el castillo debe su nombre actual. El castillo fue casi destruido por los soldados napoleónicos que lo hicieron casi inhabitable y arruinaron muchas habitaciones, hasta la fecha no se han recuperado todas las áreas del castillo a pesar de haber sido restaurado desde los años 1960.
Inicialmente el castillo se utilizó también como torre defensiva y hoy en día es sólo un lugar de visita. Para nosotros fue un paseo agradable y también visitamos el pequeño pueblo que está debajo, que está hecho enteramente de roca antigua y parece de otro siglo, las casas son realmente bonitas y coloridas. Es un pueblo muy pequeño y tranquilo. Un lugar de paz con una pequeña iglesia dedicada a San Lorenzo. Si vais de viaje a Pavullo nel Frignano os recomiendo visitar este pequeño castillo y el pueblo.
