Returning from church very late and left with little time to tidy up some tasks I usually perform with a deadline at 2:00 pm, I rushed into them without removing my church wear and was able to finish before 2:00 pm. After that, my brain couldn't think of any brain-racking stuff to write, so I decided to write about music because it's one of the things I find so easy to write about without stress.
Today, I decided to go down memory lane to bring to us one particular album that was released in the year 2006.
Although it was a gospel genre, the album was played everywhere. "Chinwe Ike" album was released 18 years ago (2006) and was done by the duo singers popularly known as Resonance.
First of all, I got so interested in their name because then I was in secondary school, and there was a particular topic we studied in Physics called Resonance of Sound. Each time I remember these people, the physics knowledge plays alongside it in my head.
As I go on to share the tracks on this album, I'm very certain that Nigerians who were born around the time this album was released will reminisce about the sweet old days. For non-Nigerians reading this, feel it and get a peek of how fun our old music was.
Chinwe Ike:
This is the title of the album and it also came as a track. The title is an Igbo name and it simply means "God has Power." It's all about portraying how powerful our God is and even in the realm of death, nothing is impossible for Him. In the video, there was a brutal accident scene where almost all of the victims died, and as they were about to take them to the mortuary, a guy walked in, laid his hands on them, and they were revived back to life.
The soft beat and rhythm tone of the lady brings back a lot of good memories because those days, this track was sung everywhere.
Holy Ghost Fire:
This is the biggest hit of them all; this was the hot party track among them even though it's a Gospel song. Back then, many dancing groups, both religious and secular, used this song for choreography.
When checking this song again today, I found out that it was produced by one of the hottest music producers of those days called Dekumzy. This song is fun to dance to and easy to relate to the lyrics as well. It's all about the Holy Ghost fire, and we (Christians) can relate very well to this.
Judgement Day:
This is another track I love so much. To be truthful, I didn't like it because of the message in the lyrics, which is all about warning towards the coming judgment day; I liked it because of the melodious rhythm.
Lee-Lee:
I'm not so much a fan of this track, but the chorus brings back a lot of memories because even though we didn't know how to sing the song, the chorus was always singable.
