Every Safe Journey Is A Blessing..png

You cannot count the number of safe journey you've had this year. It doesn't have to be the ones on main express ways, it could be from your house to a nearby shop, kiosk or mall. I as a student, I use the road everyday and there are so many vehicles that pass every minute, I would loose count if I try to stand just beside the road to count the numbers of vehicle that would pass in a minute in front of my school; though the main road in front of my school has some pot holes, yet I would loose count.

Inside the Uni I attend, there are very good roads that are as good as the normal expressways. There is a car park osutside the school gate where we get cabs to take us inside the school; the main buildings and lecture halls are a little far from the school main gate. I board these cabs every single time I have lectures and I have never had any accident; there are history of accidents inside the school but few yet serious ones. The last one that happened was a tricycle that had a break fail and the driver drove the tricycle with the passengers into a nearby gutter. A student died instantly while the rest had serious injury (as I heard)

Aside using the road when I am going inside the school, I also attend a church that's far from school. It takes about 30-40 minutes from the school gate to the church I attend; I go to church at least 3 times a week because I am a worker, a musician precisely. We have our mid week service on Wednesdays so I go to church on Wednesdays while Friday and Saturday are for rehearsals then Sunday. The road here has just enough pot holes to make your car visit the mechanic regualarly. Every driver wants to avoid the pot hole which is a very dangerous thing to do because the road from my school to the church is a two-way road, that is, one the same road there are vehicles going to town and there are vehicles coming back from town.

Bikemen lack patience and you would agree with me on that, the local bikemen here are no different, they can be so annoying. Riding as if they were asked to ride to death. 70% of the time, they ride as if they are drunk ( how crazy would it be then if they are truly drunk? ). They are the same set of guys that would ignore almost every law that applies to driving. I can't count the number of times I would go out and see a bikeman arguing, pleading or fighting with a driver; they are usually not to far from experiencing any of those because of how careless many of them are.

The closest moment to dying happened this year, I was going for a night rehearsal that would start by 9pm. I wasn't going alone that night so my friend delayed a bit, so to meet up with time for rehearsal we decided to take a bike since it would be faster. We got a bike from the front of the hostel and stopped few minutes to buy bread from a popular bakery here in my school. We sat on the bike and when the bike man was just about to make turn to face the opposite direction, another bike almost hit us because that silly bikeman couldn't wait for few seconds for our bike to make a turn. I'm so sure at least one person amongst the 3 of us on the bike would have broken a leg that night.

As if that was not enough, we were so close to the church and the bike man already signaled that he would be moving right to park at the right side of the road; the road at that place is shaped like letter T because another road from a nearby street joined the mainroad. While the bike was about to move to the right after making a signal, another bike came from our front and it almost hit us because it intended to go to the right too. It happened so fast and that we could only react and shout "aaahh" after some seconds. That bike man was so silly, why would a sane person ride with the same on the mainroad to enter into a new road, I thought within myself. The three of us would have lost our legs if that silly man had hit us that night, it was so close.

We got down from the bike and had to sit on a big stone for some minutes outside the church. We couldn't believe we escaped two accidents in one night. I unashamedly thanked God for safety when we prayed during the rehearsal, it could have been a different story if not for God's protection.
