The Mountain Farm Museum features farm buildings, many from around 1900, that were relocated from various places in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park to create an outdoor museum. Visitors can explore a log farmhouse, barn, apple house, springhouse, and a working blacksmith shop to experience what life might have been like a century ago. It’s a lovely spot for a leisurely walk.

Most of these structures were constructed in the late 1800s and were brought here in the 1950s. The Davis House offers a unique opportunity to see a log house made from chestnut wood, showcasing the wood before the chestnut blight devastated the American Chestnut trees in our forests during the 1930s and early 1940s. Admission to the Farm Museum is free. It’s open all year, from October 8 AM to 6 PM, November to March from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, and April from 8 AM to 5 PM.

    Interior of an old house.

As you can see the interior is very humble. Just one bed, a sewing machine, couple chairs, little table, shelf and dishes. That’s all people have been using for their living room/bedroom. I think we also need to have this minimal amount of belongings, so we don’t become attached to all those unneeded stuff in our closets.
