Birthday Cakes From A Freshly Opened Bakery

    Pies

While I'm not the biggest fan of pie, I can get very excited when there is a bakery that has some good stuff. I'm just not one of these people that you can wake up for a pie or anything. When there's a birthday, we have to get some cake or pie though. Lately I've not been feeling like making one myself so this was another opportunity to check out the recently opened bakery not far from home.

This building has been vacant ever since we moved here and while the neighbours have opened an amazingly looking and very successful nice place to sit for every moment of the day, we sadly have not been able to check out any new stuff there in the past few years. Last year, it seemed they were doing some work in this part of the street but then everything was silent, and no change was shown from the outside. We pass this street every day commuting to and from school. A few weeks ago, I suddenly noticed some freshly built terrace and cute looking window. Aha! They had opened something, finally!

    Birthday girl

This year, I told my boyfriend to please not buy anything because it was my birthday because with all the costs having to go to Madrid for a new passport, I prefer not to overspend on things that I don't really need right away. I prefer to just buy it whenever I see a deal instead. Although my parfum is close to being empty, I didn't mention it because he would have gotten me one otherwise, lol. I proposed to just get some cake or pie and have lunch together if his work schedule would allow it.

    The weather was lovely!

Above you see the view I woke up with, putting an instant smile on my face. I honestly already forgot it was my birthday when I woke up but then two people came in singing "happy birthday" for me to remind me of it.

It was a school day for my daughter so she went off to school, but I didn't have to bring her as I was still under the weather and I was spoiled not having to get up as it was my birthday. I'd normally probably done it myself but as I felt a bit crappy still, I was very happy that my boyfriend hopped in the car to do it.

    Pick-up time

We went to pick her up together when school ended but not before I made a quick stop at the new bakery because this was the perfect moment to try a few pies or cakes. I was not sure what to expect yet as it was the first time entering. The restaurant they created looks really artsy and I will definitely go there to have a coffee and something sweet in the future. This time we were a bit short on time so we had to take away something nice for the coffee at home instead.

    Too many choices

It was hard to pick a few things only because wherever I looked, I wanted to try something. But I choose two kinder cakes for me and my daughter because usually we like those varieties of cake or pie. And my boyfriend is a big cheesecake fan so I picked that for him. But then the guy asked me the Philadelphia one or goat cheese?

I'm a huge fan of goat cheese, I love it but he doesn't love it as much as I do. As it was my birthday and the guy was really convincing telling me the goat cheese one is really tasty and creamy, I added one of both. I knew I'd never be able to eat both cakes but at least this way we could try both of them to compare.

    Regular cheese cake

I was still full from lunch so I didn't feel like eating cake or pie but my daughter wanted to have hers right away and I didn't want to let her wait so she ate her kinder cake, which she loved. It was really good!

My boyfriend was the same and said he wanted his cake with coffee so I took care of that too while I just stuck to a water instead, and get mine later.

    Goat cheese cake

Below you can see the goat cheese cake which had some crunchy stuff inside (I forgot what lol) and it was more caramelized on top:

And boy, the baker didn't lie at all, this was a damn fine piece of cake. I don't even like cheese cake, this means I never took a bite from any cheese cake when my boyfriend had one which I liked and thought I should order that next time. But this goat cheese one, AMAZING! I only ate 1/3 because both my boyfriend and daughter loved it as well and it was way too much to eat on top of the kinder cake I already had.

The best combination was the kinder cake with coffee, I don't really fancy it with cheese cake.

What's your favourite pie or cake with your coffee?
