Spiny Leaf Caterpillar

I found this species on vines on the school fence. Black in color with blue and yellow spots that tend to be red along its body, this leaf-eating caterpillar looks very beautiful. The entire body of this caterpillar has erect spines like needles so it is quite scary.

A cotton-like pile surrounds the back (anus) of the caterpillar which I think is the egg and is attached to the leaf. I photographed this type of caterpillar with my cell phone camera today, Tuesday 7 January 2025 at a location around where I work, Bogor Regency, West Java, Indonesia.
