63 years ago Laika became the first animal to orbit the Earth
Laikaz died in space; Alone and terrified
She was a stray plucked from the streets of Moscow, chosen for her small size and shiny coat which will be shown nicely in the film
She died five hours after being propelled into orbit although the fact was covered up for more than 40 years and officials insisted she was alive for days after liftoff
She died from overheating. The satellite wasn't sufficiently insulated from sunlight, and it was basically cooked to death
The Soviets admitted they never planned for her to make a return trip and knew she would die in the experiment
Laika the first animal to be launched into orbit, died of overheating and panic in the small spacecraft alone and in extreme pain
