Time is an element of change, a tool that dictates the existence of every being. The construct of time is a combination of two major factors the future and the past while the present stands in between. Every thing that stands tall right now has its beginning deeply rooted in the past like a rock. As much as we might detest some of the activities that transgressed in the past it is what gave birth to whatever we see today. One word you would constantly hear of whenever the passage of time is being discussed is history, a waste bin of time. I have never been a fan of history, it is filled with lots of baggages and horrific moments but how can a man claim to know his origin without understanding a little bit of history, so once in a while I take little peep just to balance the equation and I wouldn't lie to you it indeed filled with lot of baggages.

History is like a web pattern, every events leading to another, rise and fall of empires. For a country like mine, whose history is written in bloodshed and condemnation which is capable of making strange thoughts build up in a man's heart against another but then, that isn't what this post is all about. As a child whenever I sit amidst the adult and watch them discuss about the challenges and tribulations currently facing the country, they always seems to have a mouthful of it and it never ends. They speak about the issues of corruption and political party dominance and all sort of things but one thing that baffles me is that they always seem to believe that once we elect another president everything will be alright but it has never been.

Every time we conduct an election, all sort of promises are made through manifesto but it seems they become irrelevant immediately anyone emerges a winner, my country being the type of country that find it difficult to hold our leaders accountable for their actions. We find ourselves in the same spot every 4 years, discussing about the same problems, everyone pointing fingers at the new elected president for not being able to deliver on his promises, those who didn't vote for the president condemn those that did by throwing shades at them, while there are some that would say something like "even the past adminstration that we claim to be worst is better than now" sadly these seems to be a reoccurring statement, it makes it seem like the future we are gearing towards will be a lot worst than our past.

I once heard of a time when ₦1 equals $1, now it is just history. At least I couldn't complain about that because I never lived in that time, you can't miss what you never had but then I lived in a time when with just ₦10 your lunch box will be filled with a sort of goodies, a time when reality was still a lot bearable. I still remember my grandfather's words, he would tell us stories about how he built his first house for less than ₦5, he would brag about his first salary because he was a retired civil servant. Till he died he never seem to have anything good to say about the present administration but in those days we never really cared because we were fine with what we had at the present, if he was alive now, I wonder what his expression would be like looking at the situation of things.

Like I said I don't really know much about history because I never liked it but throughout my life there has always been a reoccurring news in the media like it never grow old. Every now and then you would hear about "Abacha loot" a sizeable wealth that has never seem to be completely recovered since over 20 years ago, the funny thing about this is that the moment Federal government recovers a portion of the loot, it seems to suddenly disappear amidst our leaders. Which kind of feels Abacha might be dead but still we have a lot of looters among us. I always wonder what if the Abacha loot never left my country in the first place?

So if indeed I'm given an opportunity for time travel, I wouldn't stress myself looking for gigantic mission to accomplish, all I have to do is go back to the past ensure he never rose to power. There is a quote, if you kill a dictator as a child before he becomes anything, it is unethical but when the child grows and becomes a dictator then it becomes a crime against humanity. Well I wouldn't be cruel enough to go after him as a child but I will definitely make sure the thought of joining the military never crossed his mind. It would be the biggest time heist that ever occurred but no one will notice anyway, Though I'm not sure how this would impact everyone in general but then can anything get any worse than our present situation in my country right now.
