Warhammer 40k - Unit Review Wheel 16 - Dark Angels, Asmodai

Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!

In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.

So let me spin the wheel and see what I get:

    Dark Angels - Asmodai

I rolled another Dark Angel and again, it is one of the Epic Heros!

Asmodai is the Interrogator Chaplain of the Dark Angels... it was his duty to torture people and find out where the Fallen are... or to force a Fallen to repent.

The Fallen are the Dark Angels who fought on the side of Chaos during the Horus Heresy and is why the Dark Angels and their successor Chapter Chapters consider themselves the Unforgiven. But enough about the lore... this post we shall do the review of the unit!

    Statline

Asmodai's base statline is basically the same as other Chaplains:

    Movement 6"
    Toughness 4
    Save 3+, Invul 4+
    Wounds 4
Leadership is a 5+ which is high (typical of religious leaders)

    Weapons

Asmodai is armed with a Heavy Bolt pistol the same as an Intercessor would wield.

Where he shines is in close combat where Asmodai wields a Crozius Arcanum and a Power Weapon together as a single profile!

    He has two attack modes:

Strike - 5 Attacks, hitting on 2+, S6, AP-2 and 2 Damage each, this is the Marine killer
Sweep - 8 Attacks, hitting on 2+ S5, AP-1 and 1 Damage each, good for 1 Wound infantry units.

Usually against Guard, Mechanicus, Aeldari infantry, Orks, Termagaunts and the like he will Sweep, probably killing 5-7 enemies in a swing!

With Strike he can fell 4-5 Space Marines in one round.

    So he is quite lethal!

    Abilities

    • Exemplar of Hate
While leading a unit, models making attacks in melee get to re-roll to Hit.
Thus he is better leading some sort of close combat squad.

Asmodai has the ability to join units that are more shooting focussed, but what would be the point of that?

    • Feared Interrogator
Start of the Fight Phase, Character units within 6" must take a Battle-Shock test at -1. If he kills a Character in melee, you gain 1 Command Point!

So this is quite good for the CP farming. Asmodai cannot kill ALL characters but there are also many that he CAN kill.

As for the Battleshock rule, this now affects all units that contain a Character. So both Characters as well as units led by Characters are affected by this rule!
