Shelving stuff on porch crop March 2025.jpg

On Tuesday morning I never got up until 6:30AM! I had just 1½ hours to clean the kitchen, write my post and be ready for my #1 intern and my helper friend. I managed to be dressed and was partially ready for her at 8AM.

We made a list of the stuff we’d need and went down to the cellar and collected it. She brought it up to the porch. We were prepping for the seed starting on Saturday of 10 trays.

We didn’t need to do anything in the dining room as there were 6 spots left.

On the porch we had to set up the rest of the north side and all of the south side. One of the lights I’d built in 2021 had broken, so we had to replace it. I’m going to have to find more lights. I tried twice over the winter but was sent the wrong thing twice from 2 different places.

We were, of course, closely supervised.

I had requested and gotten this chair on BuyNothing and when my helper friend arrived at 9:30AM I sent him to pick it up and do errands.

We finished the porch and picked up the mess and I set my #1 intern to washing seedling trays and covers. That kept her busy until noon.

When my helper friend got back he had just over an hour left, so he started cutting down the tall dead stuff in the New Herb garden. He nearly got 2 rows done.

I took care of several things in the house and went out to the gardens around 11AM.
I started back in the alcove of the New West garden and cleaned out the leaves and debris and found more snow drops. Then I worked my way down the garden.

Next I cleaned out the tiny East of Steps garden. The chrysanthemum has tiny leaves, but none of the other 3 did. The dianthus survived the winter and has a bit of green.

Back in the New West garden I worked my way down to the end and cut back the thyme to its bed.

Halfway down the garden at the end of the East of Steps garden, I found a tulip up! It’s awful early for them.

And when I’d cleaned out the end of the garden, I found the big clump of tulips was also up.

The columbine had tiny leaves and I think the dianthus made it. The moles had gotten into this garden and they decimated the Sweet Williams and the lamb’s ears. I don’t know if they will do well.

I got the 2 gardens finished, photographed, put BulbTone on the bulbs, but no FlowerTone yet. Then I made my notes and cleaned up the mess.

I was very exhausted and just went in to the couch to watch Gilmore Girls.

I, as usual, had a movie watching companion.

Wildflowers - weed wacking started crop March 2025.jpg

My son went out late afternoon the weedwack the wildflowers but it was too mucky to be walking there, so he quit until it dries out.

I went to bed at 9PM having left the stoves to be started by my son. Tuesday was forecast to be cloudy and cold so we’d gotten the stoves going Monday night. On Tuesday morning the forecast had changed to sunny and mid 60’sF. So it was pretty warm inside! It didn’t cool down much before I went to bed and Wednesday is to be in the 40’s and only part sun. So I had him start the stoves late.

On Wednesday I’m not going to exercise class. Two days of garden gym has wiped me out. I plan to sit and do paperwork, if I am up to it and I have a dentist visit mid afternoon.
