We have resumed production and solicitation of mail art. The image below is the mail art I sent yesterday. It is a mail art drawn with poster color markers and slightly collaged. It is almost a painting. It seems that the Markgrafler Museum in Germany is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and they are looking for mail art to commemorate the occasion.
When I sent it to a big post office near our house (they are big enough to be open even on holidays), the post office staff told me "It is a postcard, so you will probably receive it, but if it fails to clear customs and is stopped or sent back, we cannot refund your money. I wondered what could pass through customs if it could not clear customs.
I am dissatisfied with the slow delivery of postal items these days. If I were to send a postcard or a sealed letter within Kyoto city, it would be super fast delivery if I took it there myself (lol). But if it takes more than 30 minutes by bus, I have no choice but to send it by mail.
International mail is also changing in various ways: from March 1, 2024, items cannot be sent overseas with handwritten labels. I believe there are still some countries that do not allow handwritten EMS labels, but from March 1, 2024, handwritten labels will no longer be accepted worldwide. From now on, you have to create the invoice on your computer or smartphone and print it out with a printer. If you don't know how to use a computer or smartphone, you can no longer send international mail.
What will be the future of mail art? The taste of handwritten addresses, stamps, and postmarks is also art. It would be a shame if such things were to fade away.

メールアートの制作および募集を再開しました。画像は昨日送ったメールアートです。ポスターカラーマーカーで描いてちょっとコラージュを施したメールアートです。ほとんど絵ですね。ドイツのMarkgrafler Museumというところが50周年なので記念にメールアートを募集するみたいです。
うちから近い大きな郵便局（大きいから祝日でも開いている窓口がある）に差し出したところ、郵便局員から「ハガキだから多分届くと思うけど、もし通関できなくて止まったり返送されたりしても返金できませんからそれだけよろしく」と言われました。これが通関できなかったらなにが税関を通れるんだと思いました。
最近の郵便は郵便物を届けるのが遅いのが不満です。京都市内でハガキや封書を出すんだったら私が持って行った方が超速達ですわ(笑)。ただバスで30分以上かかるところだとしんどいから仕方なく郵送しますが。
国際郵便も色々変わってきています。2024年3月1日から、物品などは手書きラベルでは海外に送れません、だそうです。今までもEMSは手書きがダメな国があるはずですが、3月1日からは全世界ダメになるそうです。これからは送り状をパソコンかスマホで作成して、プリンタで印刷するのです。パソコンやスマホを使いこなせないと国際郵便も出せなくなってきました。
これからのメールアートは、いったいどうなるのでしょう。手書き宛名や切手、消印などの味わいもアートなんですが。そういうのが薄れてしまうとなれば残念です。
