What's up community, in recent days using the vehicle I was concerned about a new sound I heard, but it wasn't a sound that went unnoticed or was difficult to hear, it was quite strong as the blow of two metal parts when the car by a pothole should cushion.
Cambio de goma del cajetín de la dirección
Que tal comunidad, en días recientes utilizando el carro quede preocupado por un nuevo sonido que escuche, pero no era un sonido que pasara desapercibido o fuera difícil de escuchar, era bastante fuerte como el golpe de dos partes metálicas cuando el carro por un bache o hueco debía amortiguar.
I stopped and with the jack I lifted the car to check as best as possible, my fear was some stump was damaged, the lower arm or even the shock absorber and I was left on the road without being able to continue, but to my surprise everything was fine. I continued until I got home at the lowest possible speed due to fear; at lower speed I noticed that the sound was only when I crossed the road, I immediately thought that it had to do with the steering box.
Me detuve y con el gato levante el carro para revisar lo mejor posible, mi temor es que algún muñón se daño, la meseta o incluso el amortiguador y me quedara en la via sin poder continuar, pero para mi sorpresa a simple vista todo estaba bien. Continue hasta llegar a casa a la menor velocidad posible debido al temor; a menor velocidad note que el sonido se daba cuando cruzaba nada mas, de inmediato pense que tendria que ver con el cajetin de la dirección.
When I got home and parked I started to move the steering to the sides taking it to the limit and the sound was less but in effect corroborated that it was something related to the steering box. I lifted it again and this time I placed it on a higher support to be able to check it better, when I saw the steering box I immediately noticed what the problem was.
Cuando llegue a casa y me estacione comencé a mover la dirección a los lados llevándola al límite y el sonido era menor pero en efecto corroboraba que era algo relacionado al cajetín. Lo Levante de nuevo y esta vez lo coloque en el burro o soporte ahora mas alto para poder revisar mejor, al ver el cajetín de inmediato note cual era el problema.
The rubber that isolates the steering box from the support that holds it to the body had broken, as you can see in the picture it was almost coming out, because the rubber has on the sides an edge that keeps it in place so that it doesn't come out, with the age of the car it was to be expected that it would wear out.
La goma que aisla el cajetín de la dirección del soporte que lo sujeta a la carrocería se había roto, como podrán notar en la imagen estaba casi que se salía, porque la goma tiene a los lados un borde que le mantiene en su lugar para que no se salga, con lo años del carro era de esperarse que se desgastara.
Although I still have my doubts as to why this rubber broke, because the clamp or support that holds the steering box was not loose, so that the force exerted would move the rubber and break.
Aunque aun tengo mis dudas de porque esta goma se rompió, porque la abrazadera o soporte que sujeta el cajetín de la dirección no estaba floja o suelta, para que la fuerza que ejerce moviera la goma y se rompiera.
At first I thought about repairing it but the rubber costs 5$ and it is a simple repair that I can do myself, so in less than 20 minutes I changed it, it took me longer looking for the size of the tool and die, because it is 13 mm or 1/2" and I only had one die, but someone lent it to me and I changed it quickly, the sound was corrected and I passed a scare that it was nothing more expensive.
AL principio pensé en repararla pero la goma cuesta 5$ y es una reparación sencilla que yo mismo puedo hacer, así que en menos de 20 minutos la cambie, me tarde mas buscando la medida de la llave y dado, porque es 13 mm o 1/2" y solo tenia un dado, pero me la prestaron y la cambien rápidamente, el sonido se corrigió y pase un susto de que no fuera nada mas costoso.
