This is my cousin's favorite "Sweet Bread Recipe" that his wife made weekly for him. I have no idea where it originated from but she shared it with me over 30 years ago.
This week was the anniversary of her passing in 2008 and every year I make it in honor of her memory. Today, I will share it with all my Hivean friends.
Sweet Bread
Yields 4 loaves / Bake at 350°F for 25-30 minutes
4 cups warm water
2 Tablespoons yeast
1 1/4 cups of sugar
10 cups of flour
Add the yeast and 2 tablespoons of sugar to the warm water. Let the yeast proof for 10 minutes until foamy.
Thoroughly mix the rest of the sugar, flour, and yeast in a mixer or my hand until a firm ball forms.
Place in an oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Set aside to rise until doubled in size.
Punch the dough down to remove any air bubbles.
Divide the dough evenly into 4 sections. Roll the dough into the shape of the loaf pan.
Cover and let rise until it doubles again in size.
Bake for 30 minutes at 350°F. and cool on a baking rack.
If desired you can brush the top of the bread with some butter, oh yeah!
This simple bread recipe is perfect for sandwiches or toast in the morning. It has just enough sweetness to make your taste buds dance.
