I was never a guy who was really into anime, I mean, I consumed it when it was on TV and enjoyed such iconic anime as Dragon Ball or Naruto (manga review later) but I wasn't one to get too deep into the hole to see what cult anime was out there, until I entered adulthood and had a lot of free time, and was alone most of the time with an internet connection.
For some reason the name Cowboy Bebop was very fascinating to me, I wasn't entirely sure what the anime was about but I swore that if it was about something in space, thieves, mercenaries or whatever, I was going to like it in the end, so one day I downloaded all the episodes to my pc and went all week between university and watching the adventures of Bebop.
This anime is a result of many combinations of genres, it is clear that of science fiction, the characters and the world takes place in a not too distant future, where we have spaceships, different planets that we can visit but a human who seems to have failed to sweep away some of the basic problems of today.
Then there's the western, our protagonists, the whole gang, are space bounty hunters, people who kill and capture for money and go from planet to planet tracking down every bounty cartel they come across, that's how they make a living, although it's not too much the focus of the story by any stretch of the imagination.
Already from the first chapter a rather sensitive topic is touched upon, and that is the escape from the criminal life, each of our protagonists has a past and the series is going to be about how these characters overcome or get stuck in their past mistakes, Spike's arc and Jet's arc are my favourites, although we can find interesting stories not only in the Bebop but throughout the planets we visit.
The bounty poster at the beginning of each chapter is usually an excuse to get to know various characters and their stories, although there are also other chapters that divert us to other themes, there is even one that could be said to be entirely similar to the movie Alien, another where we face a demonic ghost or another where we meet a real space cowboy.
The fast paced action of many scenes is then contrasted with melancholy and slow, reflective dialogue, I think this is what hit quite deep into the me at the time, I had enough free time to watch all these sequences, re-watch them and then stare madly at the wall understanding what I had just seen, it's a one man crew experience and I love it.
It's a short anime of about twenty chapters, unlike many anime this one was made without a manga in between, it went straight to the animation studio with a clear vision of integrating all these elements and making several chapters, another thing I hadn't commented on is the MUSIC, and god, this is the anime that probably has the best soundtrack of all. How many times have you heard Jazz in an anime?
Few shows make me want more of their story once they end, but between the worlds it brings to the table, its characters and how the story ends in the most abrupt way possible, it makes me want a second season with all my might, even though there is a movie and it's very well made I think it's hard not to lose a little bit of you after watching the ending of Cowboy Bebop.

Nunca fui un tipo al que le atrajese demasiado el anime, quiero decir, lo consumia cuando salia en la TV y disfrutaba animes tan iconicos como Dragon Ball o Naruto (review del manga mas adelante) pero no era de esos que se metiese demasiado en el hoyo a ver que animes de culto habian por ahi, hasta que me adentre a la adultez y tenia mucho tiempo libre, y estaba solo la mayoria de las veces con una conexion a internet.
Por algun motivo el nombre Cowboy Bebop me resultaba muy fascinante, no estaba del todo seguro de que iba el anime pero juraba que si se trataba de algo en el espacio, ladrones, mercenarios o lo que sea, me iba a gustar al final, asi que un dia descargue todos los capitulos a mi pc y estuve toda semana entre la universidad y ver las aventuras del Bebop.
Este anime es un resultado de muchas combinaciones de generos, esta claro el de la ciencia ficcion, los personajes y el mundo se desarrolla en un futuro no demasiado lejano, en donde tenemos naves espaciales, distintos planetas que podemos visitar pero un humano que parece no ha podido barrer con algunos de los problemas basicos de hoy.
Luego esta el western, nuestros protagonistas, toda la banda, son cazarrecompensas espaciales, gente que mata y captura por dinero y que van de planeta en planeta rastreando todos los carteles de recompensas que se encuentran, asi es como se ganan la vida, aunque no es demasiado el foco de la historia ni mucho menos.
Ya desde el primer capitulo se toca un tema bastante sensible, y es el del escape de la vida criminal, cada uno de nuestros protagonistas tiene un pasado y la serie va a tratar sobre como estos personajes sobreponen o se atascan en sus errores pasados, el arco de Spike y el de Jet son mis favoritos, aunque podemos encontrar historias interesantes no solo en el Bebop sino a lo largo de los planetas que visitamos.
El cartel de recompensas al principio de cada capitulo suele ser una excusa para conocer a personajes variopintos y sus historias, aunque tambien hay otros capitulos que nos desvian hacia otras tematicas, hay incluso uno que se podria decir que es en totalidad similar a la pelicula Alien, otro en donde nos enfrentamos a un fantasma endemoniado u otro en donde conocemos a un autentico vaquero espacial.
La accion trepidante de muchas escenas luego se contrasta con melancolia y dialogos lentos y reflexivos, creo que esto fue lo que llego bastante profundo en el yo de ese entonces, tenia bastante tiempo libre para ver todas estas secuencias, volverlas a ver y luego mirar perdidamente a la pared entendiendo lo que acababa de ver, es una experiencia de un solo tripulante y me encanta.
Es un anime corto de una veintena de capitulos, a diferencia de muchos animes este se hizo sin un manga de por medio, fue directamente al estudio de animacion con una vision clara de integrar todos estos elementos y hacer varios capitulos, otra cosa que no habia comentado es la MUSICA, y dios, este es el anime que probablemente tenga la mejor banda sonora de todos. ¿Cuantas veces has escuchado Jazz en un anime?
Pocosanimes me hacen querer mas de su historia una vez terminan, pero es que entre los mundos que pone en la mesa, sus personajes y como termina la historia de la forma mas abrupta posible, me hace querer con todas mis fuerzas una segunda temporada, aunque hay una pelicula y esta muy bien hecha creo que es dificil no perder un poco de ti despues de ver el final de Cowboy Bebop.
