🦉 The Eurasian treecreeper or common treecreeper (Certhia familiaris)

    • Certhia (Greek): kerthios - a small bird crawling through the trees, mentioned by Aristotle
    • familiaris (lat.): common, easily recognizable

These birds can be found in autumn and winter as part of mixed bird flocks. They are easily recognized by their characteristic voice, or rather by their calls, similar to the sounds of a cricket (for which in the old days it was called “cricket”). And of course, you can see them, although this is not easy to do because of their color, how they crawl up the tree in a spiral from bottom to top.

As you can easily guess from their beaks, the bird is insectivorous and is able to get insects from under various cracks in the bark. In winter, the bird sometimes feeds on small seeds of coniferous trees.
