Another Beer Down the Drain

Hello Hive. It's Saturday so you know that I'm going to post about beer. Its a weekly routine for me. You know the drill. For this #Beersaturday I'll be reviewing two dark beers. One of them I disliked enough to pour it down the sink. It's something that I rarely ever do. I think I've only done it once before in the past 12 months. But enough preamble for now, let gets into it.

    Lagershed Dark

Brewery: Shawn and Ed Brewing Co
    Origin: Dundas ON Canada
    Style: Dark Lager
    Abv: 5.5%
    IBU: Unknown
    SRM: Unknown

Marketing: Lagershed is the name. Its a nice play on words. Shed is a clear Mashup of the Brewers names - Shawn and Ed. Clever. The can is black and white with no image. It boring to me, but okay.

Color: Dark chestnut Brown with decent tan colored head. The liquid appears to be filtered and clear.

Nose: Sweet and malty with fruity notes of plum and other dark skinned fruit.

Taste: Sweet and bitter with some fruity plum flavors. Overall a bit light on taste.

Texture: Lightly carbonated with a light watery mouthfeel.

Impression: this was a good beer, but not great to me. It was a bit bland and boring, but okay nonetheless. Not every beer has to be amazing really. As long as it's enjoyable to drink, I'm happy. This one hit that mark.

    Espresso Martini Stout

    Brewery: Lost Craft Brewing Co
    Origin: Toronto ON Canada
    Style: Flavored Stout
    Abv: 6.0%
    IBU: Unknown
    SRM: Unknown

Marketing: The can has a multicolor brown color scheme made up of concentric overlapping circles with the Lost Craft brand logo in the center of it all. It seems to be going for a luxury look in my opinion. It reminds me of a Louis Vuitton classic suitcase pattern. I'm not a fan of the design myself but I bought the beer so the marketing must have worked on me nonetheless.

Color: The beer poured black with absolutely no head at all which gave it a syrupy appearance that I don't find appetizing.

Nose: Sweet aroma, heavy scent of vanilla with some coffee and milk choclate notes in the background. It smelled artificial to me.

    20250119_163526~2.jpg

Taste: Sweet with very little bitterness to balance it out. Heavy taste of vanilla extract and milk chocolate. Some mild coffee flavors in the background and a lingering aftertaste of them all combined. Definitely tastes like an espresso martini.

Texture: Very little carbonation but there were some tiny sharp bubbles present. It was more fizzy feeling on the tongue than carbonated. It felt flat to me actually, so maybe it was an old beer or maybe that texture was intentional? I don't know.

Impression: So, I hated this beer all around. The lack of foam and the syrupy look made it appear unappetizing to me. The overly sweet and fake taste and smell were gross and the flat feeling texture was awful.

It did taste like an espresso martini but I hated the one and only one of those that I drank in the past, so for me that wasn't a good thing. Maybe this beer is just not for me. Needless to say, I would not buy it again. In fact, I ended up pouring it down the drain. It's pretty rare that a dump out a beer but I just couldn't stomach this one and it wasn't worth it to force myself to finish it. Goodbye gross beer!
