Hello Draw a Day community and friends. Here is my entry to the Lantern Parade prompt, where I envisioned a procession happening deep in a thick, mysterious forest. I wanted it to feel lively and full of excitement, like a real celebration with lots of creatures and woodland folk joining in. The leader is carrying a big lantern with a carved staff. I used square and rectangle lantern shapes inspired by the traditional ones made from paper and wood. The children in the parade hold round fruit lanterns that glow warmly, giving it a playful vibe. There are some animal creatures like a cat, mouse and a deer happily joining the parade.
I made this using a sketchbook and pens — just a black pen and color pens (yellow, grey, and peach). I kept the colors simple so they would not take over the scene, making yellow the main color to show the lantern glow. I enjoyed my time adding lots of little details to the forest to make it look thick and alive, with trees, leaves, and textures. I also made sure the parade looked crowded, not just a few creatures, so it feels like a big gathering filled with energy.
This was fun to make, and I hope it brings some wonder to your day too. Thanks for the inspiring prompt, and good luck to everyone joining
