As a Nigerian guy that I am, I have spent good amounts of my time with people and also their pets over the years, and I must say one of the things I really noticed is the fact that those owners at times behave like their pets and their pets behave like them at one point. It might sound so crazy but that's just the truth and I will be sharing with us some experience I have had to back it up.
When pets and the owners spent so much time together, it gets to a time, they start behaving as one family. Nigeria as a country have this cordial relationship with pets so much at least with the few I have seen. What I mean is, we are not like those Europeans that kind of treat their pets with this royalty treatment. If you come to Nigeria, dogs are known for security reasons while cats are known for chasing rats 😂.
But that is in a lighter mood, Nigeria has a way of treating their pets with this feeling of companions. I have come to discover that the same way your friend can really influence your behaviour, that's the same way your pet can also influence you. It is kind of vice versa stuff.
If the owner kind of have this gentle and chill personality, it is likely that his or her pets will also have this gentle or chill personality and vice versa because most times, those trait that our pet exhibit, they got it from the owners. Pets like dogs and cats are observant animals, which means they observe a lot what you do, the way you act and if you are the owner, there is every tendency they begin to copy the same behaviour or character they see in you also.
Let me talk about the cats for example, Nigeria cats to be precise, cats for me, I always see them as pets that have attitude but most of the time, they tend to copy it from their owner. Cats owners always have this sense of coolness and detachment and that is just exactly how the cats pet also behave. I have friends who have cats as their pets and I must confess they have this same attitude. Attitude of I can't stress myself stuff and this mindset life is not really serious. And you will agree with me that is how an average cat behaves, at least the one in Nigeria that I have seen.
Years ago, I also wonder why and how is it that pets and their owners really share similar personalities. Well I have just come to discover it is the law of nature. You become that which you spent time with the most, that's just the general law. The more you spent time with someone or something, you start adapting and behaving just as that person or thing behave. That same law apply for pets also, like I said earlier, pets are great observant, they really watch closely that which you do and they always want to emulate that from you. You are the owner and they always have this feeling that their owner will definitely lead them right.

As I conclude, I will like to add that people see pets as their family member in our society. So if you have a pet already or you are planning to have one, you just need to prepare your mind that either you copy some trait from your pet or your pet copy some trait they have observe you demonstrate over the time. Just make sure that any personality they are copying from you, it is positive and not negative.
