Lyrics of Hijo de la Luna by Jodie Fox

    Fools will find it boring
    There′s an ancient story
    A Romani lady
    Conjured up the moon
With prayers that lasted till dawn
    Tearfully she begged her
For a day when she would
    Marry one of her own

"You will have your husband, swarthy woman,"
From the sky the moon declared her omen
    "Yet as only payment
    I will claim the first-born
    Brought about by his touch
She who trades her own son
    Not to be so lonesome
    Wouldn't care for him much."

    The moon would like children
    But she cannot find love
    In the darkness above
Tell me now, moon of silver
What you′d do with a son
Made of flesh and of blood

    She would like a moonchild

She did find a husband as was promised
A dashing Romani, skin like honey
    But when came a baby
    It was pale and grey-eyed
    Snowy, luminous moonchild
At its sight the man cried
"The boy's from a white guy!
I won't stand for this lie."

    The moon would like children
    But she cannot find love
    In the darkness above
Tell me now, moon of silver
What you′d do with a son
Made of flesh and of blood
    She would like a moonchild
    Seemingly betrayed and honour damaged
Mad with thoughts of vengeance and of carnage
    He went to his wife
    And brandishing his knife
He plunged it into her heart
    Then went up a mountain
    With the newborn babe
And left it there in the dark

    The moon would like children
    But she cannot find love
    In the darkness above
Tell me now, moon of silver
What you′d do with a son
Made of flesh and of blood

    She will have her moonchild

So now every night when the child's smiling
The moon will be round and brightly shining
    And if he starts weeping
She′ll become a crescent cradle for him to sleep in

    Please read to the end😃

It's week 30 in the Vibes Web3 Music Competition. This is a great milestone for the Vibe competition, and I'm excited to share my cover of the song 'Moon Child,' which was inspired by @dayaperez 's entry from week 23. After listening to her entry from week 23, the melody stuck with me and hasn't stopped replaying in my head. One evening, I decided to search for an English version on YouTube, as I knew it would be very challenging for me to sing the song in its original language.

Luckily, I found a version by Jodie Fox, which I felt was a correct interpretation of the song. It fits the story of the original song. At first I wondered what the song was about, so I paid close attention to the lyrics and listened carefully to know what it was about.

Now I think I understand. The song is about a woman who wants the love of her life - a partner to stay with. She doesn't want to be alone; she wants a husband. So, she asks the moon for help, and the moon tells her, 'You will have your husband; do not worry woman, your problem is already solved.' However, in exchange for this husband, she must give the moon her first child.

The story goes on to say that when the woman finally got her husband, they built a life together and eventually had a baby. But when the baby arrived, the woman's husband noticed that the child was extremely pale, a very fair-skinned child. This was confusing to him, as both he and his wife were brown-skinned people. So, he wondered, how could they have given birth to such a fair-skinned child? This thought led him to suspect that his wife must have cheated on him and given birth to another man's child.

Overcome with anger, he took his knife and stabbed his wife to death. Then, he took the baby and abandoned it somewhere in the darkness. And that was the tragic end of their love story.

Now, according to the story, whenever the baby smiles, the moon shines brightly. But when the baby starts crying, the moon turns into a crescent shape, as if to help the child sleep. As you can see, this is a fictional story, and we don't know if it's based on any real events or if it's simply a made-up tale.

So, that's what the song is about, and I love the ethereal feel of it. I decided to do my own cover, which I wanted to be among my professionally covered songs.

    1000349796.jpg

However, I feel that I didn't quite do it the way I imagined it in my head. Sometimes, we love a song so much, but it just doesn't turn out the way we plan for it to.

I have a different voice texture from the original singer. When I sing, I don't try to imitate the original singer; instead, I try to do it my own way, while still maintaining the essence of the original song and ensuring that I sing the notes correctly Which is key.

Also, I try to deliver the song in my own style. The challenges I faced were that the texture of my voice was quite different from the original singer's, and that was why I attempted to sing the song in a lower key than the original.

However, the lower key sounded like it affected the pitch of the song, so I had to stick with the original key.

Belting the chorus was quite difficult, and I did a lot of takes. Finally, out of 5 takes, I settled on take 3, which had a more balanced chorus. The notes were more balanced than the other ones I tried. In the fifth attempt,, I tried to sing the chorus with a mix of my head voice, but it sounded weak, so I decided to go with the one that sounded all belty.

This is the final project, and I wouldn't say I'm entirely satisfied with it. There's definitely room for growth. The more we challenge ourselves, the more we get better. So, it's better to challenge yourself and improve in what you do than to just remain in your comfort zone, thinking you're fine and everything is fine.

So, again, this is for the Vibe Web3 Music Competition, Week 30. Please enjoy this entry and I would appreciate your honest feedback and constructive criticism as it would help me grow.
    Thank you.
