Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is Warhammer 40,000!
I was given this lot of Necrons to assemble for @xenowolfza. No, I am not planning on collecting any other army save for my Grand Imperial Army, but building an army for someone else? Sure, why not?
I must say that this experience was interesting. Necrons by their core physical design are not human and while they very much look like humanoid robotic skeletons and that reads well when looking at them on the battlefield, when you go in closer on the details you notice how different their structure is to that of humans.
This makes me think that the core beings that they were build up after, the biological Necrontyr that was the race before Biotransference, one can see here that they are not human at all!
Let's get into the Build! I already detailed the tools used for this process in a previous post: Hobby side cutter, craft knife, files, glue.
Necron Warriors and Scarab Swarms
Here are the sprues to build both the Necron Warriors and Scarab Swarms. Scarab Swarms are the same as Tyranid Ripper Swarms. There is no box set for them, instead you get them with your other units and box sets especially when there was extra space left on the sprue.
Necron Warriors make up a backbone (lol) of the Necron army and you can get a squad of 3 Swarms with each box of 10 you buy.
Here are the finished Scarab Swarms. Ok, they were very easy to do. Each one is made up of 2 parts and clipped directly into the base. There is a stone bit at the bottom and then the swarm attaches to that. The individual metal bugs are close to each other so that holds up the whole structure.
All that is important here is that each swarm goes with their rock, otherwise things don't line up and you end up struggling.
Now, onwards to the Necron Warriors!
First one built and oh man, they look great! Surprisingly, compared to Space Marines and even Guardsmen, their limbs are super skinny!
Look at the battle damage on the head and other parts of the body. Each and everyone has its own build code and there are two heads for each so if you didn't know this, there are 10 spare Necron heads in this box! Hahaha.
And here we go. All ten build up. This is usually how I have been looking at them in the past, as a squad part of an army. Never really seeing their bodies up close and in detail as I did now, needing to build the models.
Up close there are a lot of details. Necron Warriors seem to always be in a poor state, as long as they move and function their appearance does not matter. They are humanoid but their head is attached to their breastplates instead of to the torso.
This then shows off this hunched over look with their shoulder-blades jutting out out over the head. They must have been really ugly aliens.
There are quite a few of the u dondesigns that I really liked.
The thing I might want to mention here is that the main reason you need to follow the instructions here is that the arms go into and fill up those very thin little torsos. If you don't use the right arms for the right torso this will get messed up.
Another thing that will get messed up is the gun held in both arms. So the position of the gun held in both arms won't line up if you use just any part. Each one is in a different pose.
To "help" with this, there are slots in their weapons that are a semi-circle rotated at different angle and I think that would make it difficult for them to line up when they are wrong but I do NOT want that job if they all just jumbled up!
Instead, save yourself grief and just build them one at a time!
Immortals
Immortals are a caste of soldier above the Necron Warrior.
When the Necrons underwent biotransference, their stratified caste system and culture was forever locked in and programmed into the bodies of the Necrons, without the ability of being promoted or demoted, the warriors stay at their level and the Immortals are of a higher caste.
Their bodies are smooth and well maintained in comparison, the Necron Warriors are peasants in comparison to Knights or proper Soldiers.
This kit can also build Deathmarks, which would be another kind of Soldier.
As you can see, they are much more heavily armed and armoured. The torsos and legs on these models can be mixed up without penalty.
But when it comes to arms and guns, stick to the instructions and keep them paired. You can see some of them are aiming, some of them are looking across their guns and one of them has raised his gun into the air.
Those arms are not going to line up if you use the wrong arms.
And there we have it! Another 18 models built!
This was a lot of fun! I hope @xenowolfza enjoys them and that I get to battle and kill them over and over! Hehe.
Thank you for reading this post!
