[Anime A-Side]🎸Women of Rock Mix🎸

in voilk •  2 months ago

Welcome to my next A-Side, where I share a lightly curated list of the Anime music I listen to. Today, I’m in the mood for rocking out with my… sock out? Yeah, that rhymes, right? 😅

design created by me in Affinity Designer 2

    “Bios” - Hiroyuki Sawano

    Guilty Crown Soundtrack

I have mixed feelings about Guilty Crown that I still haven’t fully processed. It had one of the first soundtracks that I regularly, actively listened to. Almost every song from it will stay with me for eternity. This one I hum in the grocery store on the regular. Mika Koboyashi singing in German, Japanese and English in this… 😳

    “Shoushou Innocence” - Maaya Uchida

    Riddle Story of Devil OP

This “Yuri on Blood” death game series was a wild ride. This opening’s high octane girl pop butt rock Chimerazation took several years for me to find again. I would randomly hum this track in the grocery store and go mad looking for its origin.

“face of fact - resolution ver” - Kotoko

Baldr Force EXE Resolution OVAs OP

This Anime series was a victim of terrible localization more than anything else. It was one of my least favorite watches almost a decade ago because it was a tie-in to a visual novel franchise that you were required to play while watching the Anime to understand what was happening in the plot; those games weren’t translated or easily accessible to anyone outside of Japan while this was airing, so I was horribly confused by the end. The track itself was one of the driving forces that got me into the more alternative synthetic, dance floor J-Rock movement that was taking hold here in the states around the time this released.

"I'm Still Alive Today" - Kuroneko (Stylized 96neko)

    Ya Boy Kong Ming Soundtrack

This track is less rock and roll and more rhythm and blues than anything, but the artist typically falls under the J-Rock label. I still can't believe that this artist also did the opening for Scum's Wish. This one song at the end of the first episode made all 12 episodes special. It showed that there would be heart mixed in with the wacky premise.

"Mouretsu Uchuu Koukyou Kyoku Dai Nana Gakushou 'Mugen no Ai'" - Momoiro Clover Z

    Bodacious Space Pirates OP

I have a confession: I went in thinking this would be a weird teenage sex comedy thing involving space pirates. That's far from it. It's a very safe-for-all-ages space opera; think Space Balls meets Treasure Planet meets TNG era Star Trek. This opening song is a group of idols singing over the Japanese equivalent of Queen with an ex-Megadeth guitarist contributing much of the guitar work; it's such a glorious space pirate shanty thing.

    "NewLook" - Mashiro Ayano

    Re:Creators ED 1

Time to end this list with... well... an Ending song. I know it's pretentious but this series is somewhere in my personal top 10 Anime of All Time list. It keeps alternating with at least two others because they're all so close in the list for very similar reasons. This song is just a happy track that I can just listen to after a bad day with a glass of wine. There's not much else I can say about it.

    Now, I Must Leave

What were your thoughts on this list? I attempted to go for a bit of variety. Have you seen these Anime or heard these songs before?
