In today's post, let's reflect on the importance of togetherness this Christmas by sharing with you how I spent my holiday this year.
This year, with my family and friends, we created beautiful memories that emulated the spirit of Christmas altogether. And while I appreciate every heartfelt moment, from the simplest thing to the grandest ones this season, this little writer would like to share three of those that gave me deep realizations before this year ends.
An Intimate Christmas Picnic with My Friends
On the 13th of December, 2024, four of my closest friends and I decided to have our Christmas party. Although there is a common concept one thinks about that event—that is with loud music, dancing, going out on the pool or the beach, and playing games with others that have the same level of energy—which is a nice way to have fun, still, we decided to do something else this time. We went somewhere peaceful and quiet, on a spot in a high mountain where we can see the vast scenic view beyond it. We set up our blanket, gifts, and foods and enjoyed every second together. We also had our own fun by capturing beautiful photos and doing some TikTok trends. We had the best time exchanging gifts on our own as well. It wasn't the usual party, but I can say it was the best.
I realized...
that sometimes the greatest joy exists at moments of quiet celebration, as long as you spend it with the right friends with kindred spirits. By going to a tranquil place we had for ourselves, the little things speak so loud—we can hear our uncontrollable laughter, we can run, dance, and get silly with nobody else watching. I got to pay attention to my friends and listen to the things they shared because there was no one to distract us. All in all, I felt the genuine solemnity and comfort this Christmas picnic turned out to be. And I would've never dreamed it to be something else.
A Night in Boardwalk with My Family
My family and I didn't miss the chance to visit everyone's favorite go-to during Christmas here in my city, and that is the Boardwalk. Last 15th of December, we relished the breezy night that took us to every corner of the place. Nonetheless, we made sure we have our own spot where we can stay and eat our dinner. It turned out to be a picnic as well, close to the shore.
Everything about the boardwalk is stunning and vibrant, full of Christmas lights and designs that my family had a fun time capturing photos with. It was my youngest nephew's first time spending Christmas moments there, and it really brought him joy, and I'm glad we were all there to witness it. Moreover, there are several food stalls where people can immerse themselves. We made sure we had some for ourselves as well. It was a beautiful night indeed. Although the photos captured us in several frames, I had the privilege to capture my family's smile with my own eyes. And if the phone can save those photos, I saved mine in my heart.I realized...
that in a place as mesmerizing as the Boardwalk, it would never feel as magical as it should without spending it with the people that we love who were the spark of it all. Sure, I can enjoy those colorful displays, and I can capture those photos on my own, but turns out, it's not those lights or creative spots that make them worth the shot, because what makes them truly unforgettable are the smiles that were taken with it.
My Christmas Eve
Every year, I spend Christmas Eve in a place where my heart always belongs—my home. The day began by preparing several foods and delicacies that were about to be relished in the night. Christmas songs continue to play on our speaker, and neighbors spread their joys while doing Karaoke in their house. When the night came, my family and relatives gathered in our house to celebrate the holiday. A variety of delicious foods were displayed, my nephews received their presents, and we had the best time taking photos. We enjoyed the moments of our gathering with fun and heartfelt conversation.
Thereafter, at 10 pm, we went to attend the mass in honor of the birth of Jesus Christ, as the one we, Christians, significantly celebrate Christmas for. When we got home, the party with our other relatives around the neighborhood began. The dancing, playing games, and catching up with others were memories I shall never forget.
I realized...
that Christmas will never be the same without them. Christmas gave us the time to enjoy and celebrate together. It is the time where we forget the struggles and conflict in the past and let love and forgiveness reside in the present. It allows us to ponder how much we've grown united and that despite the hurdles of life, we still manage to find happiness in the light that others bring.
I shall say that Christmas is the miracle season, which happens to be celebrated at the end of each year. Why is that? I think of it this way: It's because Christmas has become a celebration of life—that feeling when we faced challenges for many months, yet we are still filled with hope knowing at the end of the chapter we will once again be filled with joy and love, ready to overcome the battles of the year to come. More importantly, this joyous spirit is not borne out of oneself, but by knowing our loved ones are the reason for it, every Christmas, we come to realize that sincere joy is always felt when we are with them, no matter the season. All we have to do is appreciate them every day.
Did you celebrate your Christmas with your loved ones?
Merry Christmas, everyone. May your days be filled with love and hope.
Greetings,
From my family to yours.
