Think Twice Before You Taunt Your Opponent

In this week’s Battle Mage Secrets, we look at the Ferocity ruleset and see what strategy works when all units have the Fury ability. Units with the Taunt ability will take double damage from units with Fury.

For this battle, Alric Stormbringer is my summoner as I want to boost my magic attacks.

1st position - Djinn Oshannus - Fast and with Void ability to absorb any magic attacks from my opponent.
2nd position - Nerissa Tridawn - Good health, shield and a very helpful 4 magic attack after the boost.
3rd position - Coastal Sentry - DoubleStrike with 4 melee means 8 damage done per round. Also, with the Opportunity ruleset, it will weed out the weak opponents
4th position - Ruler of the Seas - Blast damage which does a total of 5 damage per round. Also with opportunity, it might be able to do damage to 3 units instead of 2.
5th position - Riverboat Captain - Very similar to the Ruler of the Seas. Just slower and less health.
6th position - Venari Wavesmith - Mainly using it for the shield bonus in case my opponent goes heavy on melee and range.

So, with Ferocity, the main thing to avoid are units with the Taunt ability like the Kraken. So it is usually better to focus on firepower in such battles, in my opinion.

It was not going well for me at the start of the battle. My opponent's ambush at the start took out my Riverboat Captain which meant a lot less firepower. Then, killing off the WaveSmith meant my units didn't have any additional shield against my opponent's heavy melee attacks.

By the end of round 2, I still thought I had no hope left but what kept me in the battle was using magic attacks to bypass my opponent's shield, as well as a very effective doublestrike.

Finally, the tides had turned, somewhat. Although my opponent's quick attacker meant that it would go first at the start of the round. It would take out my Nerissa Tridawn, leaving it in a 1-1 battle to the death.

But that's where Doublestrike comes in so handy. It's not just 4 damage, but 8 per round. Very hard to deal with such attacks unless you have Thorns or Shield or some other mitigating defensive ability.

And in the end, I was victorious. Although I must admit, it was a very close one. You can catch a replay of the entire battle here: https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_11a8610b2b1c5f4248c70043744385ad&ref=charcoalbuffet

Hope you enjoyed this Ferocity battle and consider using some Doublestrike and magic explosions in your next Ferocity battle to target weaker non-tank units. See you in the next Battle Mage Secrets.
