Festival Du Voyageur Winnipeg Canada winter festival at Fort Gibralter

The Festival Du Voyageur has been running since 1969 and is the largest winter festival in Winnipeg. It happens every February usually during some of the coldest winter weather. This year our winter has been quite mild and with a lack of snow there were very few snow sculptures around our city. Usually snow artists are in abundance and create remarkable works of art. There were a few on display at the festival this year though not as many as previous years.

My daughter works with emerging musicians and was heavily involved in the main stage shows so when she comes in for this event I get to see her as well as attend the event. My wife and I came out and enjoyed the music in the main tent and wandered off to another venue where a friend of ours was performing.

The area for the event is treaty land which has reproduced a fort and buildings of Fort Gibraltar which was a trading post for Hudson Bay Company in the late 1700's -1800's. The festival makes use of most of the buildings during the week long event and during the day has some reenactments of a battle along the river side of the park.

The main event had several inductees from the Emerging Music Program that were flown in from across Canada to share their music with the attendees.

There are several local shops set up with a lot of the French cuisine comfort food, local beer and cannabis smoking areas.
