To be seen here is a reconstruction of the temple of Aphaia which is located on the Greek island of Aegina and consecrated was the temple of the goddess Aphaia who was also known as the protective goddess of the island and later the inhabitants also worshipped the goddesses of wisdom Athena. It is assumed that the origin of the goddess was Crete and she was also associated as a goddess with light and it is assumed that a huge cult had developed on the island in which the temple of course also had a great significance and regularly there were festivities in the temple at which various ceremonies took place which were led by priestess. The original temple was built probably of limestone and this model which is located in the Glyptothek was created of wood and expresses the temple very authentically and in addition, I was able to photograph some figures which are the originals of the temple and were created about 500 BC and perfectly express the classical Greek art. These figures were discovered in the 19th century and were subsequently acquired by the King of Bavaria Ludwig I (1786 - 1868) from the house of the Wittelsbach and are now located in the Glyptothek in which a large part of the collection comes from the house of Wittelsbach and the figures are depicted in a combative charisma and also present the goddess of wisdom Athena who keeps herself out of the fight and probably a scene from the Trojan War is depicted. The island of Aegina had a good connection to the port of Athens and the temple was relatively centrally located on the island on a mountain and the island used to be generally an important location when it comes to the economy in ancient Greece and here also the first coins were minted and it has developed into a mighty territory in ancient Greece.
