Eclispses, Copper Moons, and Surrendered Sleeping Beauties
Currently waiting by the phone for the finance department of Mitsubishi to call and finalize the sale of a 2024 Eclipse Cross.
In the end, the choice came down to the Mitsubishi Eclipse or a GMC Terrain. Mitsubishi lowered its financing and we had a winner. Now you may not be impressed with my choice. Maybe not enough pick and go for you. No, not a lambo. Keep in mind, however, this is my first car. I am feeling spoiled to have brand new wheels to boot around in. For a new entry level car that also has AWD, the Mitsubishi Eclipse cannot be beat for economy and fuel efficiency. Plus I love its spacey name.
It is a little later in the day now. Not just the few seconds it took you to scroll down the page, but several hours, and the sale is complete. Hooray!!! I live about 90 minutes from the dealership; so it will still be a couple days before it arrives in my driveway. Very excited. Time to arrange the insurance and registration. I'll keep you posted on how it goes and how I like the car as the winter months unfold.
Time to talk about the pictures. You are looking at a super moon, just after sunset and just moments after moonrise. My camera doesn't come close to capturing how spectacular the lunar orb looked hanging just above the horizon in the eastern sky. Our satellite sister was a beautiful peach and its craters purple. I assume it had picked up its color from the not-too-shabby sunset that was going on at the same time. Given the moon produces no light on its own, where else could it have come from. A second hand glow aside, it was definitely Luna's time to shine and time now to insert some Taoist philosophy and poetry.

The moon shines
Only in darkness
Only when it faces the sun
There are times
The earth blocks the moon
From the sun
Then too, the earth
Is in darkness
The moon knows
The earth knows
To welcome the dark
To welcome the rest
It is the natural way of things
Soon there will be light
The earth knows
To welcome the glow of the moon
Then too it has light in the dark
Shine when the Tao asks you to shine
Bask in the glow of others
Rest when the Tao has given you darkness

One of the strongest lessons the Tao Te Ching has imparted on me is the value of doing nothing and more importantly saying nothing. Making room for silence and inaction every day. Understand without the stillness, you will miss the most subtle, but strongest and most endearing beauty. Natural beauty. I read and write haiku for the same reason. Haiku that goes beyond the descriptive and utilizes what it referred to as pivot in English requires spaces between your thoughts that you might see the subtle relationships and patterns in nature.

Indeed, when inspiration for a haiku hits, it is like the proverbial copper penny drops.
We are drawing ever closer to Halloween and I will use that as an excuse to pull out some of my darker poems, Most of which are published in Monsters, Avatars, and Angels. You Belong to the Night is written to the sleepy gothic dreamer. Like Luna, our moon, she is gripped by the noire, a deep, night-time embrace. In fairy tales, sleeping beauty wishes to awaken to daytime with the love of her prince charming; our somnabulist princess has surrendered to her dreams and the dark and is in no hurry to wake to a world where contrast does not heighten color and sensation
You Belong to the Night
Ra has withdrawn his lapis lazuli shield
left you unsheathed, bared and vulnerable
to the whims and yearnings of Anubis
the dark one reaches out
you protest with impotent resistance
he offers insistent intimacy
the thirst for moonlight brims
mutual desire must be quenched
Cleopatra, Cinderella
Snow White, fallen before
the charms of caesars and princes
fade in the shadow-spill
of Stygian ink
dream darkly, fair lady
this is but a Duat visitation
drink it up
Red Riding Hood
has beaten the path
follow
Rapunzel’s shorn gold locks
have flattened the meadow
lay back
there is no slipping
the Persephonic mesh
for Sleeping Beauty …
while onyx reveals the stars
you belong to the night
