Visit to the Al Hoota Caves

The Al Hoota Caves in Oman is a one must visit destination in the Country. This Cave was discovered some centuries ago by the local people of the region but then nothing was done about it. If you go to see the history of Oman, the whole country has developed in the last 50 to 60 years prior to which it was majorly a rural land with locals who engaged in trade and some other businesses. It does have a rich history but the development of the Country as per today's modern ways have happened all in the last 60 years. 3 decades back if a household had to have a radio also, they would need a government permit to do so.

So even when these Caves were discovered, it was more of a local thing and never a tourist attraction, until the project was taken up by the Ministry and finally it was opened to public in 2006. Oman's highest mountain range is the Jebel Shams, and the Hoota caves are at the foot of these mountains spreading out to almost 4.5 kms. It is said that this full region has emerged from oceans over millions of years.

The inside of the caves whatever we see are all natural formations that have shaped up in millions of years. The beautiful formations of stalagmites and stalactites are a beauty in the caves and also something to wonder at how nature shapes up. There are Crystals also that form under different types of pressure in these caves. The common ones found here are the Calcites. Whenever anyone visits me to Muscat, I make it a point to get them to these Caves. It's a 2.5 hours drive from the city and after reaching there, if we drive another half an hour up to the mountains, the whole weather changes and not only that, the scenes get so beautiful up there.

Till 2 years back photography was not allowed in the caves and hence I could never share on this place, but last month when I visited with my friend I saw that now the photography is allowed and I could take many pictures.

You need to mind your head at many parts in the cave because some areas are very low touching the head. They have tried to retain is as much as possible in it's most natural state.

There is a water body also in the cave, and in many parts you will find water dripping. In this water body there are blind fishes as well.

Stalactites grow from the ceiling, whereas stalagmites grow from the floor, this is the difference between the 2. The growth of the minerals in the caves depends on the levels of Carbon dioxide and hydrogen inside.

I get very fascinated with these things.

The cave is quite big and goes up and down, there is a well made path to walk around comfortably.

Touching something as old as this, millions of years makes me feel so irrelevant and small of my own-self.

Even after another million years when possibly no humanity will exist on the planet, but these caves will still be there, such is the force and power of nature. Such a beauty it is and one of my favorites also. In my 8 years of being in this Country, I have visited these caves for 7 times. Only during the Covid year I did not. I feel like as if it keeps calling me time and again.

Hope you all enjoyed the Caves with me.

Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸
