The figures from Japan’s Cabinet Office also indicate that the country has lost its position as the world's third-largest economy to Germany.

A race to the bottom? Germany’s economy is not exactly firing on all cylinders either.

    Justice is Here

I’ve often asked people how they define justice in the face of public criticism over Merrick Garland’s handling of the January 6th investigation early on. I ask because many feel justice will only come with a swift conviction and prison time for donald trump’s role in the insurrection we all watched live on television just over three years ago. But there’s so much more to justice than that. As Lawrence O’Donnell said of trump: every day will be worse than the day before.

    Biden-Netanyahu Relationship at Boiling Point

The looming Israeli military plans to invade Rafah have exacerbated tensions between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and the Biden administration, which has grown increasingly frustrated with its attempts to rein in Israel’s military campaign.
The consequences of the distrust between President Biden and Netanyahu, who have spoken 18 times since Hamas’s Oct. 7 assault, have grown only starker in recent days. Biden now appears to be trying to draw a line with Israel’s proposed military operation on Rafah where 1.1 million Palestinians—many of them displaced—now reside.

Russia Using Thousands of Musk’s Starlink Systems in War

Ukraine’s top military-intelligence officer said Russian invasion forces in his country are using thousands of Starlink satellite internet terminals, and that the network has been active in occupied parts of Ukraine for ‘quite a long time.’
Lt. Gen. Kyrylo Budanov’s comments in an interview suggest that Russia is starting to acquire Starlink terminals, made by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, at a scale that could cut into a major Ukrainian battlefield advantage.

Rule Vote Failures Are Warning Sign for Mike Johnson

This House is the first one in modern history to have six rule votes — three under former Speaker Kevin McCarthy and three under Speaker Mike Johnson — tanked in one Congress. Before last year, a rule vote hadn’t failed in two decades.
Said House Rules Committee Chair Tom Cole (R-OK): “It’s unfortunate. Look, rules not passing weakens the majority. The rule is designed to maximize the chance of passing something on the floor that the majority wants to do, not to be used as a weapon by one group against another group.”
And the latest failure had a bright red warning sign for Johnson. There were a few non-conservatives who voted against the rule because they didn’t support the underlying legislation. That means the rebellious behavior of the existing rabble-rousers is spreading, at least in part because Johnson and McCarthy rewarded the behavior they wanted to exterminate.
